BUILDING |
RESPONSE |
|
ADM |
My building is not on the list. I am just commenting in general
on what I see around campus. If you want building specific responses, say
that up front. |
|
ADM |
I deal with Physical Plant during Homecoming daily. I think they
do a great job. Homecoming is a vey big event and I feel that we get great
services. |
|
ADM |
We need hot water in restrooms, and they can be kept a lot cleaner.
As well as classroom and Office building. |
|
ADM |
As one who generally only goes to ADM and SVC I have generally
been impressed with the quality of cleanliness and upkeep on grounds around
ADM, especially with parking garage construction. Bathrooms are always
clean, although sometimes very cold. Overall I am impressed with Physical
Plant upkeep of facilities. |
|
ADM |
Sorry, I dont have too much experience directly with phsyical plant
people, so have to be neutral |
|
ADM |
Chalkboards in LBR 252 and PMA need more frequent cleaning. |
|
ADM |
The heating and cooling systems in the ADM building are ancient.
My office has a temperature spike every afternoon that ensures that I
never wear long sleeves. Even in the dead of winter. I doubt theres anything
you can do about this, but thought you should know. Also, the latest paint
scheme for the ADM building is an eye-sore. Ive heard that its supposed
to be faux-brick, but Ive never seen brick that was orange and purple.
Im not sure this is what you meant when you asked about building appearance,
but just in case... |
|
ADM |
I am in the UTC center so most of this does not apply to me. |
|
ADM |
We are not supported by the Main Campus Physical Plant personnel.
Sorry to be of little assistance. |
|
ADM |
Thank you all! |
|
ADM |
I am in Davis Hall (St. Pete campus). I didnt see it on the list
of buildings for the last question. |
|
ADM |
TVB building is not on your list. When services are rendered such
as carpet cleaning, pest control...no one is notified that the work is
going to be done, or has been done. This would be helpful communication
to those who are charged with getting these tasks accomplished. |
|
ADM |
This was sent to St. Pete --our building is DAV |
|
ADM |
My experience with plant staff has generally been good. The janatorial
staff in the building I have used most (Cooper) has always been friendly
and helpful. They seem overwhelmed at times by student carelessness with
restrooms and such. Some problems are structural--narrow staircases, the
fact nonsmokers have to walk through smokers to get into buildings (at
times, anyway). |
|
ADM |
WHY ARE MOST OF THE EMPLOYEES SO UNHAPPY |
|
ADM |
We should look at updating the outside of Alumni Bldg. Doing a
great job with service |
|
ADM |
Staf are usually very helpful...the new buildings are nice, but
many buildings are just old and they are showing their age.....but you
all keep them decent looking.......... |
|
ADM |
I would like to explain that classrooms and restrooms are clean
and well stocked at the beginning of each day. However, trying to keep
them maintained when the students create such a mess is your biggest challenge.
I dont think the students take enough interest in cleaning up after themselves
and this is not the fault of Physical Plant in any way. |
|
ADM |
Everything is just fine. The only thing I would like is shelves
in my office, they have requested them to be put up but I just dont get
them and being here for 12 years I think we shouldnt have to request for
an order to be done just come around once every 3 months and ask if we
the Admin. buldg. need anything and I mean every office. That is all... |
|
ADM |
While the restrooms are well-stocked 99f the time, they really
take a beating during the day and are rarely "clean" by mid-day.
By mid-afternoon they are a disaster. I know manpower is an issue, but
perhaps a mid-day check would be appropriate. Our offices are rarely "comfortable"
and in compensating with increased air-flow, they become quite noisy.
Portable fans and heaters are a common sight. Ceiling fans would be a
wonderful addition and should result in an overall cost-savings. |
|
ADM |
I work off campus in the UPC building. |
|
ADM |
I wish they could deodorize this bathroom. Also, we dont necessarily
have to have HOT water, but WARM water to wash our hands with would really
be nice. Using COLD water hurts. |
|
ADM |
We have the nicest people from Physical Plant maintaining our building.
They are always courteous and professional. |
|
ADM |
Bushes need to be trimmed and maintained outside of the buildings.
This will also decrease the number of bees and bugs around here.It is
always cool in the building where I work.Grounds keepers need to be more
careful while driving golf carts on the sidewalks. Slow down! Give the
walker the right of way. |
|
ADM |
I requested for 6 boxes of university Catologs to be picked up
for trash, no one ever came to pick them up. |
|
ADM |
The flag pole needs to be raised or moved because the palm trees
now almost block the flag. Also, the colors of the Admin building look
terribly ugly from the front. They do not go with the style of the building. |
|
ADM |
We are based off campus (UTC)in a leased building, so I dont think
my input in this survey would be very helpful..Thank you,XXXX |
|
ADM |
THE RESTROOM FOR WOMEN IN ADM 1036 IS HORRIFIC AT TIMES. I HAVE
NEVER BEEN IN A RESTROOM THAT SMELLS CONTINOUSLY. WHY IS IT THAT 1)THEY
CAN NOT PUT SOME TYPE OF DEODORIZER IN THERE TO WORK CONTINUOSLY AND 2)SINCE
IT SEEMS THAT SOME OF THESE WOMEN WERE BORN IN A BARN OR WITH OUTHOUSES,
WHY CANT THE UNIVERSITY PROVIDE SEAT COVERS? ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN
CONCERNING THIS PARTICULAR RESTROOM THAT I HAVE TO USE I WOULD GIVE IT
A -3. HOPEFULL THIS SURVEY WILL NOT BE REPRESENTATIVE OF AN ACT IN FUTILITY.
THANK YOU. |
|
ADM |
Greatest problem is with ladies washroom: no hot water, towels
often not replaced or allowed to run out; soap often runs out (I have
an extra bar weve used from time to time), and the metal can holding female
waste products often falls off the wall. |

I think that Physical Plant is doing a terrific job. Also the XXXX
who works at COPH MDC 56 is doing a terrific job for Physical PlantsThanks,XXXX |

I am in the Health Sciences area and our Physical Plant group who
maintains our facilities are wonderful!!! They are very conscientious,
responsive and pleasant in the process. I amalso sure that they have a
thankless job! |

My comments refer to the USF St. Petersburg campus, in general,
& the Florida Teachers Center & Davis Hall, in particular. Thank
you for the opportunity to comment. Please forward appropriately. |
|
ADM |
Some of the sidewalk areas need to be re-thought.I would make the
urban trails into sidewalks and get rid of all of those horrible looking
chains. |
|
ADM |
I didnt choose one building because Ive had experiences in multiple
buildings. |
|
ADM |
Im amazed that a campus this size looks as great as it usually
does. Once in a while Ill run into a building or restroom that is not
clean or is messy, but usually the staff does a fantastic job. The grounds
are wonderfully beautiful. We have a bit of a temperature problem in our
office, but we understand why. The groundskeepers and other personnel
are courteous and helpful. Good work! |
|
ADM |
Plumbing fixtures in MDC4048 are in poor condition. The toilet
paper is abysmal in texture and weight. |
|
ADM |
What I would like to see is the head of Phyical Plant do surveys
with the different departments on what are we to do with the student records,
test, examination, desk copies from different company, and all other sensitive
materials that cannot be thrown into the paper bins. Please help find
a solution for this problem or forward this to the President and let her
know what our concerns are. The burn bags at this University should not
be a department problem, It should be a University of South Florida problem.
Its something wrong I think she would want to know just how personal student
information is being disposed of. So the University will not be on television
looking stupid. Sincerely, XXXX |
|
ADM |
No problems, thanks |
|
ADM |
I teach on Saturdays in Hammon Commons (HCL5, computer lab). This
is perhaps not under the jurisdiction of USF but New College. That room
has several pieces of broken furniture, is often dirty and unkempt, and
has trash here and there that needs to be disposed of. Hammond Commons
dining area is usually very dirty and messy on Saturday, and the restroom
there definitely needs more attention. Please pass this message along
to New College personnel if appropriate. Thanks,XXXX |

We are a grant located off campus at the University Professional
Center. We do have need many times during the month to come over to the
main campus...and I have noticed nothing but great surrounds both on the
grounds and in the buildings. Keep up the great work. |
|
ADM |
Mens restroom in basement is never as clean as the restrooms upstairs.
To use the restroom I go upstairs which is not convenient. For the last
couple of days the urinal has been overflowing adding to the general stinky
order and uncleaness. The reatroom could use better lighting. The second
toilet cubicle is so small its practically useless. |
|
ADM |
The bathrooms are not always clean because they are used by the
students. They are always clean by the next business day. |
|
ADM |
I am in the KORC building at the St. Pete campus. No reference
to that building in the previous statement. Our labs here are often without
paper towels for awhile. Most of the time, they get filled when we call
and complain. That is my biggest complaint. And the fact that it is so
cold in the buildings. |
|
ADM |
Wheres the CRI on this list? Is this only for Tampa campus? Also,
it seems like theres no easy way to get anything done over here. Whenever
I need something done it takes several calls back and forth, and nobody
on Tampa campus knows anything that goes on down here. Its like were on
an island in the middle of nowhere. We need an easier, more streamlined
way to communicate with the Physical Plant. And it would be nice if somebody
at the Physical Plant in Tampa at least knew the right contact down here
in St. Pete. |
|
ADM |
Thank you for doing a great job! |
|
ADM |
Parking lots are never cleaned and are littered with broken class!!!!!! |
|
ADM |
Overall a good job by all. Thank you for your services.XXXX |
|
ADM |
Building options given on the above selection window do not include
the Campus Activities Center ... CAC. |
|
ADM |
It would be nice if the University Police could get more of an
immediate response from Physical Plant after normal working hours. Many
times we will have an incident that needs your attention and the response
we get from the "on-call" person is "cant it wait until
morning?". If we thought it could wait until morning we wouldnt be
calling your department. |
|
ADM |
I am talking about the HCL classrooms. |
|
ADM |
Im in USD. Its not on your list. |
|
ADM |
The building list does not have Sarasota buildings that I am commenting
on listed. They are all Tampa buildings -- you might want to fix this.Anyway
the buildings I am commenting on are PME and HCL. The responsiveness to
problems in these buildings and the conditions I have had to work under
in these buildings is totally unaccepatable and my complaints about these
buildings, which began in August of 2003, have not yet been addressed
yet. The physical plants method of dealing with my complaints has been
to put them back on me stating such absurd things as I dont know how to
use a thermostat! |
|
ADM |
I am slos commenting on SVC and MC as well as classroom in CPR,
SOC and BEH. |
|
ADM |
i work in the st. petersburg campus and it is maintained very nicely.
i also take classes.. and i have been impressed with the classrooms. the
phy. plant staff here are great , curtious and through.. they are very
prompt and so efficent. thank you mmiller... |
|
ADM |
I dont know the label of the building but it is COBA. The place
is littered with ads some of which are of bad taste for a University.
The stairs are usually dirty....I mentioned this in a previous survey
but not seen any improvements. try it...drop a piece of paper on the stair
and it may be safe for a week. |

ALC |
This is in regard to your survey. We have had excellent service
from the Grounds Dept., Alarm Shop, Maintenance etc. Everyone has been
very professional and helpful. I would recommend the USF Physical Plant
team to any Tampa Bay Community Business.XXXX |
|
ALC |
Thank you for asking our opinions. |
|
ALC |
Physical Plant does an excellent job of responding to our building
needs. They are a pleasure to work with! |
|
ALC |
I want to compliment our custodian XXXX, who works in ALC. She
is a very hard worker and does an EXCELLENT job at keeping the building
maintained. I, however, am displeased with the new custodian XXXX, he
makes me very uncomfortable as well as some of the other female staff
I work with. One of my associates leaves her office when he goes in to
dump her trash. I understand that he has been here for a VERY long time
and seems to have some emotional dysfunction, but he makes alot of us
feel very uneasy. |
|
ALC |
XXXX is wonderful; very professional and courteous. However, she
mostly works in the other wing of our building. The person responsible
for this wing is way too talkative, very slow, leaves the vacuum, and
other tools of the trade in the middle of the hallway for hours at a time.
I usually leave my office when he comes around to empty the wastebaskets
because he starts talking and wont go away. |
|
AOC |
Generally, all looks really well. However, people smoke on the
steps of the AOC building (lower level) and leave their stubs laying around,
and it doesnt look like it ever gets swept or cleaned. It would be nice
if it got cleaned up like other buildings (I know we are off in never
never land...)thanks. |
|
AOC |
My "disagree" for the temperature question was due to
being unable to properly regulate the rooms on the second floor of the
building. Walls were built after the air ducts were installed so it is
hard to regulate the rooms--they are either too cold or hot to suit people.
We have adjusted--we are not really complaining. |
|
AOC |
USF is a smelly campus at times! Why? The staff and students leave
the dumpster lids open. It would be great if chains could be attached
that would allow the lids to open but NOT FLOP BACK. Thay way they couldnt
be left open at all. Might be a bit inconvenient but it would make USF
a more attractive place to be for those prospective students. Its usually
the smelliest right where new students would have to pass--behind the
Marshall Center on the walk from the parking garage and among the dorms
where new students tour. The other thing that makes no sense on campus
is something Im not too sure falls under physical plant, but you all might
be able to direct it to the right management-types. Now, in addition to
being a staff memeber Im also a part-time student who walks to class so
Im sure of my facts here. Many, many students walk from the dorm area
to the Education/Cooper Hall area. There USED TO BE a crosswalk between
the Castor Hall/Argos area and the Behavioral Sciences building. Just
recently this crosswalk was moved around the corner to point to green
staff parking lot 7M AND the speed bumps were removed. Students who are
trying to get to class on time will not walk 30 feet out of their way
and 30 feet back again just to humor the crosswalk painters. THIS IS A
DANGEROUS situation. There is no crosswalk and NO SPEED BUMPS where the
student are OBVIOUSLY crossing. If you want to verify their migration
pattern just check the lack of grass and sand tracked across the road
where the crosswalk should be. |
|
BEH |
Our campus has a clean, well-maintained and well-groomed look.
The new buildings, new walkways, and new landscaping of the last several
years have really improved the campuss overall appearance. |
|
BEH |
When the trash baskets are emptied they are just put back somewhere
in the room, most often just inside the door or on a chair. They should
be put back where they were found. Also, although I have called and left
notes on the door, the trash from BEH 210 is never picked up. |
|
BEH |
Thanks!!!! |

My building is not listed, CRI |
|
BSF |
Our conference room is not supposed to be locked (BSF 221). There
are signs on the doors saying not to lock it, but it frequently is locked
during the night, one can only assume by the custodial personnel. It is
a great inconvenience when it is locked, as only one lab on the floor
has a key to it. |
|
BSF |
I dont know the difference between Service Center personnel and
Physical Plant personnel. I interpreted PP personnel to be the ones that
respond to work requests and maintain the building appearance (e.g., painters,
A/C repair, light fixtures, etc.) and service personnel to be the ones
that handle daily janitorial tasks. There have been instances where the
latter responsibilities have not been kept up for several days in a row,
although they are generally maintained properly.Temperatures in lab and
office spaces at times seem to fluctuate independently of our controls.
We also have a problem with intake of "problem" air into the
lab spaces -- most notable is the cigarette smoke smell that comes into
the lab but other outside smells also infiltrate at times. Solvent smells
(from inside the building?) also occur but only rarely. |
|
BSF |
The restroom on the third floor must be checked out more periodically.
Its commonto have some water leaking and/or lackof paper towels. The elevators
of BSF building are also innot-so-good shape. They are not as cleanas
they should be and this is a very negative aspect when we have visitors
and prospective students walking around. |
|
BSF |
There is no reason to run the A/C at full power ALL the time. Its
SO cold on the second floor of BSF that I have to wear a coat while I
am inside! |
|
BSF |
I have had very good interaction with XXXX. He has responded ina
timely amnner to all my needs. This may not aplly to physical Plant but
you may relay this information to the cleaning crew! The department have
requested a cleaning of the BSF 360 room a month ago and no response!
My office was suppose to be clean 4 weeks ago and no response. I had to
move into it as it was. carpet is disgusting!LSA 102 was also asked to
be cleaned, And no response. These laboratories have been neglected for
a long time because of the abscense of a director. They also require of
the presence of the person incharge because there are strong magnets in
the lab. I have offered to be present during the cleaning process to no
avail! I am frustrated with the XXXX and newly arrived professor. |
|
BSN |
Temperature is always a problem, especially in classrooms. Almost
always, the classrooms are frigid. The thermostats provide no control. The
chalkboard erasers are often full of chalk dust, making it difficult to
properly erase the board without getting a mouth and body full of chalk
dust.Lighting in classrooms is problematic in that the podiums have no
light switches. In small classrooms, it is tedious to walk back and forth
to the wall switches in order to dim lights for a/v equipment projection.
In large classrooms, it is nearly dysfunctional, as the wall switches
are a long distance from the podium.Bathrooms are reasonably well maintained.Work
requests are quickly taken, but sometimes not fully completed without
numerous follow-ups.Campus buildings are improving in appearance (the
paint on the library has made a world of difference -- thanks!). The BSN
"bunker", though, is clearly in need of attention, such as power
washing the stairs, landscaping the courtyards, etc. I hope that it doesnt
fall into further disrepair as emphasis is given to the new addition to
the building. The majority of activities are still taking place in the
old bunker. |
|
BSN |
Also CIS Building |
|
BSN |
BSN has a number of problems with keeping it clean. This is mostly
because it gets used over the week-end and we dont get cleaning services
then. If the University wont fund cleaning services on the week-ends,
then buildings should not be open to group meetings, etc. |
|
BSN |
Our crew does a great job. Thanks,XXXX |
|
BSN |
The classrooms are dirty. Chalkdust covers the front of the rooms.
Trash cans not always emptied. The clocks are almost never right. The
stairs are dirty. Entering from the parking lot gives a poor first impression
for guests. I havent seen a less well kept government building. The only
good thing about working in this building is that it is better than Cooper
Hall. |
|
BSN |
Some classrooms in BSN are extremely cool at times, and the temperature
can not be adjusted using the thermostats. However, I understand this
is not currently under the control of Physical Plant. Also, fluorescent
lights that are out are not always promptly replaced. |
|
BSN |
Many interior walls need repainting. Carpeting needs to be redone
in almost all areas. BSN is in real need of refurbishing! |
|
BSN |
I was "VERY DISAPPOINTED" when I learned that physical
plant will not be responsible for special handling bags. That is something
that should be maintained by that area. Placing the responsibility on
office personnel is absolutely ridiculous. Funding should be made available
for Physical Plant to handle those materials. |
|
BSN |
Thank you and your staff for all your hard work! |
|
BSN |
its COLD!!!! |
|
BSN |
The bathrooms in BSN are ALWAYS dirty and smell of urine. I am
a Business Major and I frequent the Business Building. The classrooms
have overflowing garbages in them almost all of the time and the floors
in BSN 1100 are in desperate need of cleaning. |
|
BSN |
I always see XXXX? (thin older african-american man) working very
hard, and he always has a smile on his face and a warm hello. Physical
Plant should be proud of such a good employee. |
|
BSN |
There are no trash cans in my classroom, and papers and junk just
pile up; no one seems to ever collect them. Why not put a trash can in
there? |
|
BSN |
Some classrooms in BSN have the movable, yet attached chairs with
reclining back support. There are a very good design! |
|
CHE |
I teach in various buildings, so my comments covermore than one.
this semester I am in chemistry and physics. |
|
CHE |
I only have had one request of the physical plant. In fall of 2003,
I asked to have a faucet fixed in a classroom so that my CHM 2021 discussion
group could do activities in there. It was never done. I went to the physical
plant in person to fill out the form, so I know they got it. Whats up
with that????? |
|
CIS |
CIS 2084 is the classroom I usually teach in. All of us (studnets
and I) agree that the room is always unusually cold. I generally bring
a jacket with me when I have to use the room. There is no way for us to
adjust the temperature in the room. Also, the tissue roll in the mens toilet
on the second floor occasionally runs out of tissue or the tissue does
not come out of the holder. |
|
CIS |
Bathrooms are generally not clean, in fact sometimes filthy. It
is just terrible. |
|
CIS |
Cleaning crew frequently leaves doors unlocked to offices and to
office suite. |
|
CIS |
When we had full staff the grounds - & campus buildings were
always tidy. Not the case anymore. Our people are spread out too thin.
As far as the temp part - the CIS bldg has been a problem for maintenance
from its creation. Good group to deal with! |
|
CIS |
We only get to pick one building to comment on? Or are we supposed
to do the survey multiple times for different buildings?Neither of those
seems terribly convenient -- and most of us are going to have experiences
with multiple buildings on campus. What I would say about CIS is generally
better than what Id say about CPR or FAO -- but worse than what Id say
about EDU. |
|
CIS |
The survey here is too inflexible, let me explain a couple of answers...Some
buildings look great; others nothing can save. Some normal work requests
are done very quickly; others not so quickly. Some classrooms are generally
comfortable, depending on the building and the time of year (CIS is pretty
comfortable almost all of the time.) But thats not true in other buildings. |
|
CIS |
The day person is excellent. The night crew is not thorough, although--and
this is the good news--the night crew members have stopped logging on
to faculty computers and stealing personal possessions in recent months. |
|
CIS |
The day crew (especially XXXX) is GREAT, but the night crew does
NOT clean, continues to leave doors unlocked and there are visable signs
of more resting than working. The bathroom floors are NOT being swept
or mopped and the toilets are not cleaned especially around the backs
yet they pour smelly stuff in them and put the seats up so it looks like
someone has cleaned. |
|
CPH |
In COPH room 2006 the studio class room the room is alway in the
50 to 60degrees(what ever the clillers are set for that day is the temperature
in the room) This problem has been on going for a long time. every now
and then the tempature is fine. XXXX broadcast eng 9999 |
|
CPH |
XXXX is pleasant and responsive. |
|
CPH |
The low marks are for the facilities staff in our building(CPH).
XXXX and XXXX are the most useless people I have ever worked with. |
|
CPH |
My comments reflect my thoughts campus-wide, not just in CPH. |
|
CPH |
Fantastic...no complain....honestly its the people who make it
the way it is. Some fac and staff cant keep it clean so they complain
sometimes |
|
CPH |
The 1038B computer lab in COPH has been uncomfortably warm this
semester, which is ironic because the upstairs classrooms are generally
uncomfortably cold. |
|
CPR |
I dont believe that the problem in CPR is the people who work here--at
least not the ones who work here during the day. There just needs to be
more of them, so they can do the "rounds" more frequently. This
is an extremely heavily used building, and often the restrooms are a mess.
The floor of the first floor mens room is always wet. Also, the electronic
toilet flushers and sink faucets are ridiculous. Toilets flush with the
slightest movement, and the sinks often wont give you water when you need
it. You have to move your hands around trying to persuade it to be nice
& let you have some water so you can wash or rinse your hands. Then
maybe, if it decides to, it will give you a dribble. Or maybe it wont.
|
|
CPR |
I understand that CPR is and old building, however, those of us
that teach at night find the building dirty, the classrooms are extremely
hot and the light situation is not the best. |
|
CPR |
This is an old building, so it is not easy to make it look good.
The staff assigned to it do their best, I recognize that. But the rest
rooms are dingy and sometimes out of paper towels, or one sink may be
stopped up. I wish the building could be renovated. The elevators are
my main complaint, as one or another is broken all too frequently. |
|
CPR |
Ive always felt that Cooper Hall is very poorly maintained, and
I dont mean this as a criticism of the current maintenance staff. I believe
the current staff does as good a job as it can with the very limited resources
it has at its disposal. What kinds of things would make me, a professor,
feel more comfortable in this work environment? First, I think the bathrooms
could be better maintained throughout the day. The bathroom stalls might
be clean in the morning, but its not very long before a student urinates
on the toilet seats and then theres no place to go to the bathroom. I
often walk over to the Education Building just to use a toilet that hasnt
been urinated on.Second, it seems like the maintenance staff limits its
work in the evening to cleaning the bathrooms and emptying the trash cans.
Why not have the staff vacuum the hallway carpets at least twice a week
and occasionally vaccuum our office carpets. Ive never had my office carpet
vacuumed by a maintenance employees without my specifically asking that
it be done. Finally, the stairways in Cooper Hall, especially the ones
on either end of the building are usually filthy. To be honest, Ive been
embarrassed at times to bring friends or family members into Cooper because
of those stairways. I used to work as a janitor, and whenever we saw chewing
gum stuck to the concrete, we pealed it off. Instead, here in Cooper it
seems to be common to leave the chewing gum blotches on the stairs. In
general, I consider Cooper Hall to be an unhealthy building because of
the poor level of maintenance. I doubt that the ducts have been cleaned
in the last several years, and with the high levels of dust and accumulated
dirt, I wouldnt be surprised if I were currently working inside a health
hazard. For all of these reasons, I think the administrators who make
decisions about how to allocate resources should consider the effects
that poorly maintained building have on the staff, faculty, and students
who work in them. Poorly maintained buildings translates into low morale
and concern about our health for many people here. Think of the boost
in school pride if university officials showed proper stewardship for
the physical environment here in Cooper Hall. |
|
CPR |
XXXX, our custodian, is wonderful. She is unfailingly cheerful,
helpful, professional, and efficient. In my years of teaching at 4 universities,
I have not met her equal. I would strongly recommend her for promotion
to a management position, or for management training if it would be required
for promotion. Numerous other faculty have made positive remarks about
her in my hearing, and that is also a unique experience. My concerns about
classroom/office comfort and lighting refer to extremes of temperature
everywhere and to persistent lighting problems (flashing lights) in one
classroom. As for cleanliness, the new boards are usually filthy by afternoon
and erasers are often absent; if there, they seem ineffective. |

The light has been blinking about for a month in CPR480. Could
you replace a new one ? |

XXXX, in Cooper, is most remarkable. Bathrooms areimmaculate. She
is more than approachable and repondsimmediately to any problems (not
as a result of her work, but rather students use of the facilities). She
is thebest, and I dread the day when she chooses to move on, whereverthat
is. |

Any less than complimentary ratings are given due to lack of funding
for needed improvements. They are not a reflection on the Physical Plant
workers. I am speaking of classrooms that need paint and new carpeting,
classrooms that have poor light sources, exteriors of buildings that are
dated in architectural look and in need of new paint, etc. So far as I
can see, workers do as much as they can possibly do with the resources
they are given. |

I would like to say that XXXX (I dont know her last name) who takes
care of the housekeeping (restrooms) in Cooper Hall is not only an outstanding
employee, but a wonderful person, too. She is usually the first person
I see when I arrive on campus at 7AM, and I look forward to her lovely
smile and friendly words. She is always available whenever I have needed
help in any way. We need more people like her. She deserves a raise!XXXX,
Adjunct Instructor, XXXX |

Provide erasers in every classroom for the new bulletin boards;
make sure each class has a lecturn(one that can fit on top of the desk
is OK). Though the survey above covers CPR primarily, offices may be in
other buildings. Check to see that the social sciences building ground
floor has a regular insect maintenance plan to prevent insects(ants) from
appearing, especially in the corridors. |

Some class rooms are extremely cold, even at the time when the
temperature outside is about 60 degrees. Is there any way to check the
classrooms tempretures and adjust them as needed? That will be greatly
appreciated. |

Our custodian--XXXX--not only provides the cleaning services that
her job requires, but she is a friendly, pleasant person--important attributes!

I work in Cooper Hall and my suggestion for the powers that be
to commit themselves to a long term gradual rennovation of this building
which would include cleaning out of the ducts and guts of the building.
Also, painting is needed in the hallways and high use areas of the walls,
trim. A thorough reworking of the bathrooms is also needed because the
facilities are old. The inside building needs to be rennovated and cleaned.
The health of everyone is the major issue here. |

Groundskeepers and building "cleaners" are outstanding--friendly,
consciencious, and serious about their work. These people deserve lots
of recognition--any advice on how to be more supportive of these key members
of the university team? |
|
CPR |
I would like to emphasize how wonderful XXXX, our custodian in
CPR, is. (Im sorry: I dont know her last name.) She is efficient, cheerful,
and extraordinarily professional. I know she has an enormous job in taking
care of this building, but she makes it look easy. She, like all the custodians
(and physical plant employees generally), deserves a raise. Thanks,XXXX,

The woman who does maintenance in Cooper Hall is very efficient
and courteous and deserves special recognition. |

Its no ones fault that the old buildings just dont look like much.
And a building like CPR is so badly designed that nothing short of demolition
could help it. Imagine two wide stairwells at either end, where there
is little traffic, and a narrow one in the middle, where most of the traffic
is. The newer ones such as CIS are really pretty attractive. There is an
ongoing problem with temperature control in a lot of rooms in CPR. And,
the furniture in the classrooms is execorable -- those plastic orange
chairs are a disgrace and they are impossible to sit in for any length
of time. |

CPR |
All of maintenance, grounds, and housekeeping that I know have
always been pleasant, nice, personable, and interested in keeping Cooper
Hall clean and in working order (it is an old building, ya know). And,
many times, they have come to our rescue, especially when the exit light
caught on fire and when the roof leaked because of all of the downpours
that we have had. I have worked in this building since 1993 and physical
plant has always been there for us. Thanks everyone!!!! |

I rarely frequent the classrooms unless Im involved with a safety
investigation/inquiry,so therefore, I have to remain neutral in that respect.
Norman, who is the most frequent custodial staff in our bldg he does an
excellent job trying to keep our area properly stocked and cleaned. He
deserves a round of outstanding accolades/financial incentives for a job
well done even with limited supplies. |

CTR |
Offices in Student Health Services annex (lower level of Marshall
Center) EXTREMELY cold. Makes for a very uncomfortable working environment.
|
|
CTR |
The time it took to receive utility bills this past year was excessive. |
|
CUT |
Need to vacuum offices once in a while. They get pretty dirty.
Restrooms inside CUTR are disgusting. Need to mop and clean. Need air
freshener also. |
|
CUT |
Seems that the floors are very, very rarely vacuumed. Restrooms
are not maintained and stocked on a real regular basis. |
|
CUT |
More natural lighting and recyled/unbleached paper products would
be great. |

EDU |
Most classrooms and offices are very dusty, and the carpet hasnt
been vacuumed since the beginning of the academic year. |
|
EDU |
The floor in classroom EDU 150 where I have class on Wednesday
evenings is filthy. I understand that it hasnt been cleaned for the entire
spring semester!! |
|
EDU |
Im very disappointed that students dont do their part to keep the
grounds, classrooms and restrooms cleaner. In 30 years here, it amazes
me how nasty students can be. It would be wonderful if Oracles, cold drink
cans and other trash were not left laying all over the place and if ladies/gentlemen
could wipe after themselves in the restrooms. Theres no excuse!!! Given
that USF cant afford staff to pick up and clean up after every student
(and shouldnt have to) I think Physical Plant personnel do a great job!
They have always been very attentive to my needs and I sincerely appreciate
it. |

I teach three classes a week in EDU 115. For the past three to
four weeks we have had a number of problems. 1. The door to the stairwell
on the east side has been locked basically all day, or maybe days on end.
This is a problem for people bringing equipment from TSR (EDU 219) to
the classroom. 2. Since April 12 there have been the remains of what may
be a brunch (coffee pot, paper cups, utensils, lemonade dispenser, etc)
on a table in the classroom. The table has been moved from the center
of the room to the side. I do not know who is responsible to remove these
things but the lemonade is taking on a life of its own. 3. Today for the
first time the chairs were on top of the tables when we came in for class
at 8am. If the survey had been done a month earlier I would have had no
problems but the last month as been the worst in the years I have been
using this classroom. My office is always cared for well, so I know some
of this is not your problem, but if you could help I would appreciate
it. Thanks. XXXX |

There has been a dead fly stuck on the wall of the handicapped
toilet in the ladies restroom, since December 2003. (EDU 141)The entrance
door to the ladies room behind the Deans office does not have rubber padding
and slams loudly everytime someone enters or exits. (EDU 112) |

Sometimes the education building is too cold-- I also teach in
other buildings that are poorly kept up-- HMS did not even have outside
lights on when class was let out-- this happened only once but that was
an uncomfortable and potentially dangerous situation. The older buildings
(Cooper, HMS) are a mess-- they smell bad and I wonder about toxic mold
and other harmful substances. All of this is not the fault of the physical
plant services but maybe this comment will help. |

I believe that there are not enough recycling recepticles placed
around campus for students to get rid of their empty bottles or read newspapers.
If there is anything that you are looking to imporve, please make this
a priority. |
|
EME |
EME trailers are in bad shape. Doors at the bottom have corroded
and are falling apart. Requests to fix them have been very slow in the
making and only temporary fix has been made. Also A/C units put out soot
all over the lab. Carpets are all coming part in the seams. |
|
ENB |
My building is even on your list (ENC)!!! I choose ENB above because
it is the closest to me.Many physical plant workers are rude and inconsiderate
when using and driving golf carts. They sometimes do not watch nor care
for pedestrians. I have had to walk around carts parked on sidewalks because
workers were stopped, taking a break and talking. They dont always drive
on sidewalks why must they park on them to take a break?Im sure this is
just a few people, most workers are nice. But some are very rude to faculty,
staff and students. |
|
ENB |
First - this campus is beautiful! Just awesome - thanks so much
for all your hard work. Now, some suggestions (since you asked! LOL): 1)
Office trash bins need emptied more often.2) Is there some work that can
be done either before 8am or after 5:30? When I am walking to ENB in the
mornings through the Marshall Ctr., I am often trying to dodge the leaf
blowers and lawn mowers. I do my best, but I still have had bits of grass
and such blow into my eyes. Sometimes the personnel cut off their equipment
to let people pass, but not often.3) The water used for watering the lawns
and in the fountains smells like rotten eggs - LOL Sorry, but it does!
What is up with that? Makes me wonder what is in that water - I hope its
safe!4) Need recycle bins for cans and bottles put all over campus, including
in our building. USF needs to recycle much more than we are doing! Anyway,
thanks so much for asking and overall, great job! :O) |

ENB |
Overall Physical Plant does a good job. However, in ENB, the cleaning
crew do not do a good job. Computer labs, office space and specially the
stair case look filthy. |
|
ENB |
Paper supplies in Handicapped stalls are rarely stocked. Trash is not removed from hallways. Generally the physical plant staff does a credible job, but emergency work orders often do not receive priority. Lighting is very bad in some office |
