BUILDING |
RESPONSE |
|
ADM |
My building is not on the list. I am just commenting in general
on what I see around campus. If you want building specific responses, say
that up front. |
|
ADM |
I deal with Physical Plant during Homecoming daily. I think they
do a great job. Homecoming is a vey big event and I feel that we get great
services. |
|
ADM |
We need hot water in restrooms, and they can be kept a lot cleaner.
As well as classroom and Office building. |
|
ADM |
As one who generally only goes to ADM and SVC I have generally
been impressed with the quality of cleanliness and upkeep on grounds around
ADM, especially with parking garage construction. Bathrooms are always
clean, although sometimes very cold. Overall I am impressed with Physical
Plant upkeep of facilities. |
|
ADM |
Sorry, I dont have too much experience directly with phsyical plant
people, so have to be neutral |
|
ADM |
Chalkboards in LBR 252 and PMA need more frequent cleaning. |
|
ADM |
The heating and cooling systems in the ADM building are ancient.
My office has a temperature spike every afternoon that ensures that I
never wear long sleeves. Even in the dead of winter. I doubt theres anything
you can do about this, but thought you should know. Also, the latest paint
scheme for the ADM building is an eye-sore. Ive heard that its supposed
to be faux-brick, but Ive never seen brick that was orange and purple.
Im not sure this is what you meant when you asked about building appearance,
but just in case... |
|
ADM |
I am in the UTC center so most of this does not apply to me. |
|
ADM |
We are not supported by the Main Campus Physical Plant personnel.
Sorry to be of little assistance. |
|
ADM |
Thank you all! |
|
ADM |
I am in Davis Hall (St. Pete campus). I didnt see it on the list
of buildings for the last question. |
|
ADM |
TVB building is not on your list. When services are rendered such
as carpet cleaning, pest control...no one is notified that the work is
going to be done, or has been done. This would be helpful communication
to those who are charged with getting these tasks accomplished. |
|
ADM |
This was sent to St. Pete --our building is DAV |
|
ADM |
My experience with plant staff has generally been good. The janatorial
staff in the building I have used most (Cooper) has always been friendly
and helpful. They seem overwhelmed at times by student carelessness with
restrooms and such. Some problems are structural--narrow staircases, the
fact nonsmokers have to walk through smokers to get into buildings (at
times, anyway). |
|
ADM |
WHY ARE MOST OF THE EMPLOYEES SO UNHAPPY |
|
ADM |
We should look at updating the outside of Alumni Bldg. Doing a
great job with service |
|
ADM |
Staf are usually very helpful...the new buildings are nice, but
many buildings are just old and they are showing their age.....but you
all keep them decent looking.......... |
|
ADM |
I would like to explain that classrooms and restrooms are clean
and well stocked at the beginning of each day. However, trying to keep
them maintained when the students create such a mess is your biggest challenge.
I dont think the students take enough interest in cleaning up after themselves
and this is not the fault of Physical Plant in any way. |
|
ADM |
Everything is just fine. The only thing I would like is shelves
in my office, they have requested them to be put up but I just dont get
them and being here for 12 years I think we shouldnt have to request for
an order to be done just come around once every 3 months and ask if we
the Admin. buldg. need anything and I mean every office. That is all... |
|
ADM |
While the restrooms are well-stocked 99f the time, they really
take a beating during the day and are rarely "clean" by mid-day.
By mid-afternoon they are a disaster. I know manpower is an issue, but
perhaps a mid-day check would be appropriate. Our offices are rarely "comfortable"
and in compensating with increased air-flow, they become quite noisy.
Portable fans and heaters are a common sight. Ceiling fans would be a
wonderful addition and should result in an overall cost-savings. |
|
ADM |
I work off campus in the UPC building. |
|
ADM |
I wish they could deodorize this bathroom. Also, we dont necessarily
have to have HOT water, but WARM water to wash our hands with would really
be nice. Using COLD water hurts. |
|
ADM |
We have the nicest people from Physical Plant maintaining our building.
They are always courteous and professional. |
|
ADM |
Bushes need to be trimmed and maintained outside of the buildings.
This will also decrease the number of bees and bugs around here.It is
always cool in the building where I work.Grounds keepers need to be more
careful while driving golf carts on the sidewalks. Slow down! Give the
walker the right of way. |
|
ADM |
I requested for 6 boxes of university Catologs to be picked up
for trash, no one ever came to pick them up. |
|
ADM |
The flag pole needs to be raised or moved because the palm trees
now almost block the flag. Also, the colors of the Admin building look
terribly ugly from the front. They do not go with the style of the building. |
|
ADM |
We are based off campus (UTC)in a leased building, so I dont think
my input in this survey would be very helpful..Thank you,XXXX |
|
ADM |
THE RESTROOM FOR WOMEN IN ADM 1036 IS HORRIFIC AT TIMES. I HAVE
NEVER BEEN IN A RESTROOM THAT SMELLS CONTINOUSLY. WHY IS IT THAT 1)THEY
CAN NOT PUT SOME TYPE OF DEODORIZER IN THERE TO WORK CONTINUOSLY AND 2)SINCE
IT SEEMS THAT SOME OF THESE WOMEN WERE BORN IN A BARN OR WITH OUTHOUSES,
WHY CANT THE UNIVERSITY PROVIDE SEAT COVERS? ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN
CONCERNING THIS PARTICULAR RESTROOM THAT I HAVE TO USE I WOULD GIVE IT
A -3. HOPEFULL THIS SURVEY WILL NOT BE REPRESENTATIVE OF AN ACT IN FUTILITY.
THANK YOU. |
|
ADM |
Greatest problem is with ladies washroom: no hot water, towels
often not replaced or allowed to run out; soap often runs out (I have
an extra bar weve used from time to time), and the metal can holding female
waste products often falls off the wall. |

I think that Physical Plant is doing a terrific job. Also the XXXX
who works at COPH MDC 56 is doing a terrific job for Physical PlantsThanks,XXXX |

I am in the Health Sciences area and our Physical Plant group who
maintains our facilities are wonderful!!! They are very conscientious,
responsive and pleasant in the process. I amalso sure that they have a
thankless job! |

My comments refer to the USF St. Petersburg campus, in general,
& the Florida Teachers Center & Davis Hall, in particular. Thank
you for the opportunity to comment. Please forward appropriately. |
|
ADM |
Some of the sidewalk areas need to be re-thought.I would make the
urban trails into sidewalks and get rid of all of those horrible looking
chains. |
|
ADM |
I didnt choose one building because Ive had experiences in multiple
buildings. |
|
ADM |
Im amazed that a campus this size looks as great as it usually
does. Once in a while Ill run into a building or restroom that is not
clean or is messy, but usually the staff does a fantastic job. The grounds
are wonderfully beautiful. We have a bit of a temperature problem in our
office, but we understand why. The groundskeepers and other personnel
are courteous and helpful. Good work! |
|
ADM |
Plumbing fixtures in MDC4048 are in poor condition. The toilet
paper is abysmal in texture and weight. |
|
ADM |
What I would like to see is the head of Phyical Plant do surveys
with the different departments on what are we to do with the student records,
test, examination, desk copies from different company, and all other sensitive
materials that cannot be thrown into the paper bins. Please help find
a solution for this problem or forward this to the President and let her
know what our concerns are. The burn bags at this University should not
be a department problem, It should be a University of South Florida problem.
Its something wrong I think she would want to know just how personal student
information is being disposed of. So the University will not be on television
looking stupid. Sincerely, XXXX |
|
ADM |
No problems, thanks |
|
ADM |
I teach on Saturdays in Hammon Commons (HCL5, computer lab). This
is perhaps not under the jurisdiction of USF but New College. That room
has several pieces of broken furniture, is often dirty and unkempt, and
has trash here and there that needs to be disposed of. Hammond Commons
dining area is usually very dirty and messy on Saturday, and the restroom
there definitely needs more attention. Please pass this message along
to New College personnel if appropriate. Thanks,XXXX |

We are a grant located off campus at the University Professional
Center. We do have need many times during the month to come over to the
main campus...and I have noticed nothing but great surrounds both on the
grounds and in the buildings. Keep up the great work. |
|
ADM |
Mens restroom in basement is never as clean as the restrooms upstairs.
To use the restroom I go upstairs which is not convenient. For the last
couple of days the urinal has been overflowing adding to the general stinky
order and uncleaness. The reatroom could use better lighting. The second
toilet cubicle is so small its practically useless. |
|
ADM |
The bathrooms are not always clean because they are used by the
students. They are always clean by the next business day. |
|
ADM |
I am in the KORC building at the St. Pete campus. No reference
to that building in the previous statement. Our labs here are often without
paper towels for awhile. Most of the time, they get filled when we call
and complain. That is my biggest complaint. And the fact that it is so
cold in the buildings. |
|
ADM |
Wheres the CRI on this list? Is this only for Tampa campus? Also,
it seems like theres no easy way to get anything done over here. Whenever
I need something done it takes several calls back and forth, and nobody
on Tampa campus knows anything that goes on down here. Its like were on
an island in the middle of nowhere. We need an easier, more streamlined
way to communicate with the Physical Plant. And it would be nice if somebody
at the Physical Plant in Tampa at least knew the right contact down here
in St. Pete. |
|
ADM |
Thank you for doing a great job! |
|
ADM |
Parking lots are never cleaned and are littered with broken class!!!!!! |
|
ADM |
Overall a good job by all. Thank you for your services.XXXX |
|
ADM |
Building options given on the above selection window do not include
the Campus Activities Center ... CAC. |
|
ADM |
It would be nice if the University Police could get more of an
immediate response from Physical Plant after normal working hours. Many
times we will have an incident that needs your attention and the response
we get from the "on-call" person is "cant it wait until
morning?". If we thought it could wait until morning we wouldnt be
calling your department. |
|
ADM |
I am talking about the HCL classrooms. |
|
ADM |
Im in USD. Its not on your list. |
|
ADM |
The building list does not have Sarasota buildings that I am commenting
on listed. They are all Tampa buildings -- you might want to fix this.Anyway
the buildings I am commenting on are PME and HCL. The responsiveness to
problems in these buildings and the conditions I have had to work under
in these buildings is totally unaccepatable and my complaints about these
buildings, which began in August of 2003, have not yet been addressed
yet. The physical plants method of dealing with my complaints has been
to put them back on me stating such absurd things as I dont know how to
use a thermostat! |
|
ADM |
I am slos commenting on SVC and MC as well as classroom in CPR,
SOC and BEH. |
|
ADM |
i work in the st. petersburg campus and it is maintained very nicely.
i also take classes.. and i have been impressed with the classrooms. the
phy. plant staff here are great , curtious and through.. they are very
prompt and so efficent. thank you mmiller... |
|
ADM |
I dont know the label of the building but it is COBA. The place
is littered with ads some of which are of bad taste for a University.
The stairs are usually dirty....I mentioned this in a previous survey
but not seen any improvements. try it...drop a piece of paper on the stair
and it may be safe for a week. |

ALC |
This is in regard to your survey. We have had excellent service
from the Grounds Dept., Alarm Shop, Maintenance etc. Everyone has been
very professional and helpful. I would recommend the USF Physical Plant
team to any Tampa Bay Community Business.XXXX |
|
ALC |
Thank you for asking our opinions. |
|
ALC |
Physical Plant does an excellent job of responding to our building
needs. They are a pleasure to work with! |
|
ALC |
I want to compliment our custodian XXXX, who works in ALC. She
is a very hard worker and does an EXCELLENT job at keeping the building
maintained. I, however, am displeased with the new custodian XXXX, he
makes me very uncomfortable as well as some of the other female staff
I work with. One of my associates leaves her office when he goes in to
dump her trash. I understand that he has been here for a VERY long time
and seems to have some emotional dysfunction, but he makes alot of us
feel very uneasy. |
|
ALC |
XXXX is wonderful; very professional and courteous. However, she
mostly works in the other wing of our building. The person responsible
for this wing is way too talkative, very slow, leaves the vacuum, and
other tools of the trade in the middle of the hallway for hours at a time.
I usually leave my office when he comes around to empty the wastebaskets
because he starts talking and wont go away. |
|
AOC |
Generally, all looks really well. However, people smoke on the
steps of the AOC building (lower level) and leave their stubs laying around,
and it doesnt look like it ever gets swept or cleaned. It would be nice
if it got cleaned up like other buildings (I know we are off in never
never land...)thanks. |
|
AOC |
My "disagree" for the temperature question was due to
being unable to properly regulate the rooms on the second floor of the
building. Walls were built after the air ducts were installed so it is
hard to regulate the rooms--they are either too cold or hot to suit people.
We have adjusted--we are not really complaining. |
|
AOC |
USF is a smelly campus at times! Why? The staff and students leave
the dumpster lids open. It would be great if chains could be attached
that would allow the lids to open but NOT FLOP BACK. Thay way they couldnt
be left open at all. Might be a bit inconvenient but it would make USF
a more attractive place to be for those prospective students. Its usually
the smelliest right where new students would have to pass--behind the
Marshall Center on the walk from the parking garage and among the dorms
where new students tour. The other thing that makes no sense on campus
is something Im not too sure falls under physical plant, but you all might
be able to direct it to the right management-types. Now, in addition to
being a staff memeber Im also a part-time student who walks to class so
Im sure of my facts here. Many, many students walk from the dorm area
to the Education/Cooper Hall area. There USED TO BE a crosswalk between
the Castor Hall/Argos area and the Behavioral Sciences building. Just
recently this crosswalk was moved around the corner to point to green
staff parking lot 7M AND the speed bumps were removed. Students who are
trying to get to class on time will not walk 30 feet out of their way
and 30 feet back again just to humor the crosswalk painters. THIS IS A
DANGEROUS situation. There is no crosswalk and NO SPEED BUMPS where the
student are OBVIOUSLY crossing. If you want to verify their migration
pattern just check the lack of grass and sand tracked across the road
where the crosswalk should be. |
|
BEH |
Our campus has a clean, well-maintained and well-groomed look.
The new buildings, new walkways, and new landscaping of the last several
years have really improved the campuss overall appearance. |
|
BEH |
When the trash baskets are emptied they are just put back somewhere
in the room, most often just inside the door or on a chair. They should
be put back where they were found. Also, although I have called and left
notes on the door, the trash from BEH 210 is never picked up. |
|
BEH |
Thanks!!!! |

My building is not listed, CRI |
|
BSF |
Our conference room is not supposed to be locked (BSF 221). There
are signs on the doors saying not to lock it, but it frequently is locked
during the night, one can only assume by the custodial personnel. It is
a great inconvenience when it is locked, as only one lab on the floor
has a key to it. |
|
BSF |
I dont know the difference between Service Center personnel and
Physical Plant personnel. I interpreted PP personnel to be the ones that
respond to work requests and maintain the building appearance (e.g., painters,
A/C repair, light fixtures, etc.) and service personnel to be the ones
that handle daily janitorial tasks. There have been instances where the
latter responsibilities have not been kept up for several days in a row,
although they are generally maintained properly.Temperatures in lab and
office spaces at times seem to fluctuate independently of our controls.
We also have a problem with intake of "problem" air into the
lab spaces -- most notable is the cigarette smoke smell that comes into
the lab but other outside smells also infiltrate at times. Solvent smells
(from inside the building?) also occur but only rarely. |
|
BSF |
The restroom on the third floor must be checked out more periodically.
Its commonto have some water leaking and/or lackof paper towels. The elevators
of BSF building are also innot-so-good shape. They are not as cleanas
they should be and this is a very negative aspect when we have visitors
and prospective students walking around. |
|
BSF |
There is no reason to run the A/C at full power ALL the time. Its
SO cold on the second floor of BSF that I have to wear a coat while I
am inside! |
|
BSF |
I have had very good interaction with XXXX. He has responded ina
timely amnner to all my needs. This may not aplly to physical Plant but
you may relay this information to the cleaning crew! The department have
requested a cleaning of the BSF 360 room a month ago and no response!
My office was suppose to be clean 4 weeks ago and no response. I had to
move into it as it was. carpet is disgusting!LSA 102 was also asked to
be cleaned, And no response. These laboratories have been neglected for
a long time because of the abscense of a director. They also require of
the presence of the person incharge because there are strong magnets in
the lab. I have offered to be present during the cleaning process to no
avail! I am frustrated with the XXXX and newly arrived professor. |
|
BSN |
Temperature is always a problem, especially in classrooms. Almost
always, the classrooms are frigid. The thermostats provide no control. The
chalkboard erasers are often full of chalk dust, making it difficult to
properly erase the board without getting a mouth and body full of chalk
dust.Lighting in classrooms is problematic in that the podiums have no
light switches. In small classrooms, it is tedious to walk back and forth
to the wall switches in order to dim lights for a/v equipment projection.
In large classrooms, it is nearly dysfunctional, as the wall switches
are a long distance from the podium.Bathrooms are reasonably well maintained.Work
requests are quickly taken, but sometimes not fully completed without
numerous follow-ups.Campus buildings are improving in appearance (the
paint on the library has made a world of difference -- thanks!). The BSN
"bunker", though, is clearly in need of attention, such as power
washing the stairs, landscaping the courtyards, etc. I hope that it doesnt
fall into further disrepair as emphasis is given to the new addition to
the building. The majority of activities are still taking place in the
old bunker. |
|
BSN |
Also CIS Building |
|
BSN |
BSN has a number of problems with keeping it clean. This is mostly
because it gets used over the week-end and we dont get cleaning services
then. If the University wont fund cleaning services on the week-ends,
then buildings should not be open to group meetings, etc. |
|
BSN |
Our crew does a great job. Thanks,XXXX |
|
BSN |
The classrooms are dirty. Chalkdust covers the front of the rooms.
Trash cans not always emptied. The clocks are almost never right. The
stairs are dirty. Entering from the parking lot gives a poor first impression
for guests. I havent seen a less well kept government building. The only
good thing about working in this building is that it is better than Cooper
Hall. |
|
BSN |
Some classrooms in BSN are extremely cool at times, and the temperature
can not be adjusted using the thermostats. However, I understand this
is not currently under the control of Physical Plant. Also, fluorescent
lights that are out are not always promptly replaced. |
|
BSN |
Many interior walls need repainting. Carpeting needs to be redone
in almost all areas. BSN is in real need of refurbishing! |
|
BSN |
I was "VERY DISAPPOINTED" when I learned that physical
plant will not be responsible for special handling bags. That is something
that should be maintained by that area. Placing the responsibility on
office personnel is absolutely ridiculous. Funding should be made available
for Physical Plant to handle those materials. |
|
BSN |
Thank you and your staff for all your hard work! |
|
BSN |
its COLD!!!! |
|
BSN |
The bathrooms in BSN are ALWAYS dirty and smell of urine. I am
a Business Major and I frequent the Business Building. The classrooms
have overflowing garbages in them almost all of the time and the floors
in BSN 1100 are in desperate need of cleaning. |
|
BSN |
I always see XXXX? (thin older african-american man) working very
hard, and he always has a smile on his face and a warm hello. Physical
Plant should be proud of such a good employee. |
|
BSN |
There are no trash cans in my classroom, and papers and junk just
pile up; no one seems to ever collect them. Why not put a trash can in
there? |
|
BSN |
Some classrooms in BSN have the movable, yet attached chairs with
reclining back support. There are a very good design! |
|
CHE |
I teach in various buildings, so my comments covermore than one.
this semester I am in chemistry and physics. |
|
CHE |
I only have had one request of the physical plant. In fall of 2003,
I asked to have a faucet fixed in a classroom so that my CHM 2021 discussion
group could do activities in there. It was never done. I went to the physical
plant in person to fill out the form, so I know they got it. Whats up
with that????? |
|
CIS |
CIS 2084 is the classroom I usually teach in. All of us (studnets
and I) agree that the room is always unusually cold. I generally bring
a jacket with me when I have to use the room. There is no way for us to
adjust the temperature in the room. Also, the tissue roll in the mens toilet
on the second floor occasionally runs out of tissue or the tissue does
not come out of the holder. |
|
CIS |
Bathrooms are generally not clean, in fact sometimes filthy. It
is just terrible. |
|
CIS |
Cleaning crew frequently leaves doors unlocked to offices and to
office suite. |
|
CIS |
When we had full staff the grounds - & campus buildings were
always tidy. Not the case anymore. Our people are spread out too thin.
As far as the temp part - the CIS bldg has been a problem for maintenance
from its creation. Good group to deal with! |
|
CIS |
We only get to pick one building to comment on? Or are we supposed
to do the survey multiple times for different buildings?Neither of those
seems terribly convenient -- and most of us are going to have experiences
with multiple buildings on campus. What I would say about CIS is generally
better than what Id say about CPR or FAO -- but worse than what Id say
about EDU. |
|
CIS |
The survey here is too inflexible, let me explain a couple of answers...Some
buildings look great; others nothing can save. Some normal work requests
are done very quickly; others not so quickly. Some classrooms are generally
comfortable, depending on the building and the time of year (CIS is pretty
comfortable almost all of the time.) But thats not true in other buildings. |
|
CIS |
The day person is excellent. The night crew is not thorough, although--and
this is the good news--the night crew members have stopped logging on
to faculty computers and stealing personal possessions in recent months. |
|
CIS |
The day crew (especially XXXX) is GREAT, but the night crew does
NOT clean, continues to leave doors unlocked and there are visable signs
of more resting than working. The bathroom floors are NOT being swept
or mopped and the toilets are not cleaned especially around the backs
yet they pour smelly stuff in them and put the seats up so it looks like
someone has cleaned. |
|
CPH |
In COPH room 2006 the studio class room the room is alway in the
50 to 60degrees(what ever the clillers are set for that day is the temperature
in the room) This problem has been on going for a long time. every now
and then the tempature is fine. XXXX broadcast eng 9999 |
|
CPH |
XXXX is pleasant and responsive. |
|
CPH |
The low marks are for the facilities staff in our building(CPH).
XXXX and XXXX are the most useless people I have ever worked with. |
|
CPH |
My comments reflect my thoughts campus-wide, not just in CPH. |
|
CPH |
Fantastic...no complain....honestly its the people who make it
the way it is. Some fac and staff cant keep it clean so they complain
sometimes |
|
CPH |
The 1038B computer lab in COPH has been uncomfortably warm this
semester, which is ironic because the upstairs classrooms are generally
uncomfortably cold. |
|
CPR |
I dont believe that the problem in CPR is the people who work here--at
least not the ones who work here during the day. There just needs to be
more of them, so they can do the "rounds" more frequently. This
is an extremely heavily used building, and often the restrooms are a mess.
The floor of the first floor mens room is always wet. Also, the electronic
toilet flushers and sink faucets are ridiculous. Toilets flush with the
slightest movement, and the sinks often wont give you water when you need
it. You have to move your hands around trying to persuade it to be nice
& let you have some water so you can wash or rinse your hands. Then
maybe, if it decides to, it will give you a dribble. Or maybe it wont.
|
|
CPR |
I understand that CPR is and old building, however, those of us
that teach at night find the building dirty, the classrooms are extremely
hot and the light situation is not the best. |
|
CPR |
This is an old building, so it is not easy to make it look good.
The staff assigned to it do their best, I recognize that. But the rest
rooms are dingy and sometimes out of paper towels, or one sink may be
stopped up. I wish the building could be renovated. The elevators are
my main complaint, as one or another is broken all too frequently. |
|
CPR |
Ive always felt that Cooper Hall is very poorly maintained, and
I dont mean this as a criticism of the current maintenance staff. I believe
the current staff does as good a job as it can with the very limited resources
it has at its disposal. What kinds of things would make me, a professor,
feel more comfortable in this work environment? First, I think the bathrooms
could be better maintained throughout the day. The bathroom stalls might
be clean in the morning, but its not very long before a student urinates
on the toilet seats and then theres no place to go to the bathroom. I
often walk over to the Education Building just to use a toilet that hasnt
been urinated on.Second, it seems like the maintenance staff limits its
work in the evening to cleaning the bathrooms and emptying the trash cans.
Why not have the staff vacuum the hallway carpets at least twice a week
and occasionally vaccuum our office carpets. Ive never had my office carpet
vacuumed by a maintenance employees without my specifically asking that
it be done. Finally, the stairways in Cooper Hall, especially the ones
on either end of the building are usually filthy. To be honest, Ive been
embarrassed at times to bring friends or family members into Cooper because
of those stairways. I used to work as a janitor, and whenever we saw chewing
gum stuck to the concrete, we pealed it off. Instead, here in Cooper it
seems to be common to leave the chewing gum blotches on the stairs. In
general, I consider Cooper Hall to be an unhealthy building because of
the poor level of maintenance. I doubt that the ducts have been cleaned
in the last several years, and with the high levels of dust and accumulated
dirt, I wouldnt be surprised if I were currently working inside a health
hazard. For all of these reasons, I think the administrators who make
decisions about how to allocate resources should consider the effects
that poorly maintained building have on the staff, faculty, and students
who work in them. Poorly maintained buildings translates into low morale
and concern about our health for many people here. Think of the boost
in school pride if university officials showed proper stewardship for
the physical environment here in Cooper Hall. |
|
CPR |
XXXX, our custodian, is wonderful. She is unfailingly cheerful,
helpful, professional, and efficient. In my years of teaching at 4 universities,
I have not met her equal. I would strongly recommend her for promotion
to a management position, or for management training if it would be required
for promotion. Numerous other faculty have made positive remarks about
her in my hearing, and that is also a unique experience. My concerns about
classroom/office comfort and lighting refer to extremes of temperature
everywhere and to persistent lighting problems (flashing lights) in one
classroom. As for cleanliness, the new boards are usually filthy by afternoon
and erasers are often absent; if there, they seem ineffective. |

The light has been blinking about for a month in CPR480. Could
you replace a new one ? |

CPR |
XXXX, in Cooper, is most remarkable. Bathrooms areimmaculate. She
is more than approachable and repondsimmediately to any problems (not
as a result of her work, but rather students use of the facilities). She
is thebest, and I dread the day when she chooses to move on, whereverthat
is. |
|
CPR |
Any less than complimentary ratings are given due to lack of funding
for needed improvements. They are not a reflection on the Physical Plant
workers. I am speaking of classrooms that need paint and new carpeting,
classrooms that have poor light sources, exteriors of buildings that are
dated in architectural look and in need of new paint, etc. So far as I
can see, workers do as much as they can possibly do with the resources
they are given. |
|
CPR |
I would like to say that XXXX (I dont know her last name) who takes
care of the housekeeping (restrooms) in Cooper Hall is not only an outstanding
employee, but a wonderful person, too. She is usually the first person
I see when I arrive on campus at 7AM, and I look forward to her lovely
smile and friendly words. She is always available whenever I have needed
help in any way. We need more people like her. She deserves a raise!XXXX,

Provide erasers in every classroom for the new bulletin boards;
make sure each class has a lecturn(one that can fit on top of the desk
is OK). Though the survey above covers CPR primarily, offices may be in
other buildings. Check to see that the social sciences building ground
floor has a regular insect maintenance plan to prevent insects(ants) from
appearing, especially in the corridors. |

CPR |
Some class rooms are extremely cold, even at the time when the
temperature outside is about 60 degrees. Is there any way to check the
classrooms tempretures and adjust them as needed? That will be greatly
appreciated. |

Our custodian--XXXX--not only provides the cleaning services that
her job requires, but she is a friendly, pleasant person--important attributes!

CPR |
I work in Cooper Hall and my suggestion for the powers that be
to commit themselves to a long term gradual rennovation of this building
which would include cleaning out of the ducts and guts of the building.
Also, painting is needed in the hallways and high use areas of the walls,
trim. A thorough reworking of the bathrooms is also needed because the
facilities are old. The inside building needs to be rennovated and cleaned.
The health of everyone is the major issue here. |
|
CPR |
Groundskeepers and building "cleaners" are outstanding--friendly,
consciencious, and serious about their work. These people deserve lots
of recognition--any advice on how to be more supportive of these key members
of the university team? |
|
CPR |
I would like to emphasize how wonderful XXXX, our custodian in
CPR, is. (Im sorry: I dont know her last name.) She is efficient, cheerful,
and extraordinarily professional. I know she has an enormous job in taking
care of this building, but she makes it look easy. She, like all the custodians
(and physical plant employees generally), deserves a raise. Thanks,XXXX,

CPR |
The woman who does maintenance in Cooper Hall is very efficient
and courteous and deserves special recognition. |
|
CPR |
Its no ones fault that the old buildings just dont look like much.
And a building like CPR is so badly designed that nothing short of demolition
could help it. Imagine two wide stairwells at either end, where there
is little traffic, and a narrow one in the middle, where most of the traffic
is. The newer ones such as CIS are really pretty attractive. There is an
ongoing problem with temperature control in a lot of rooms in CPR. And,
the furniture in the classrooms is execorable -- those plastic orange
chairs are a disgrace and they are impossible to sit in for any length
of time. |
|
CPR |
All of maintenance, grounds, and housekeeping that I know have
always been pleasant, nice, personable, and interested in keeping Cooper
Hall clean and in working order (it is an old building, ya know). And,
many times, they have come to our rescue, especially when the exit light
caught on fire and when the roof leaked because of all of the downpours
that we have had. I have worked in this building since 1993 and physical
plant has always been there for us. Thanks everyone!!!! |

CRS |
I rarely frequent the classrooms unless Im involved with a safety
investigation/inquiry,so therefore, I have to remain neutral in that respect.
Norman, who is the most frequent custodial staff in our bldg he does an
excellent job trying to keep our area properly stocked and cleaned. He
deserves a round of outstanding accolades/financial incentives for a job
well done even with limited supplies. |

CTR |
Offices in Student Health Services annex (lower level of Marshall
Center) EXTREMELY cold. Makes for a very uncomfortable working environment.
|
|
CTR |
The time it took to receive utility bills this past year was excessive. |
|
CUT |
Need to vacuum offices once in a while. They get pretty dirty.
Restrooms inside CUTR are disgusting. Need to mop and clean. Need air
freshener also. |
|
CUT |
Seems that the floors are very, very rarely vacuumed. Restrooms
are not maintained and stocked on a real regular basis. |

More natural lighting and recyled/unbleached paper products would
be great. |

EDU |
Most classrooms and offices are very dusty, and the carpet hasnt
been vacuumed since the beginning of the academic year. |
|
EDU |
The floor in classroom EDU 150 where I have class on Wednesday
evenings is filthy. I understand that it hasnt been cleaned for the entire
spring semester!! |
|
EDU |
Im very disappointed that students dont do their part to keep the
grounds, classrooms and restrooms cleaner. In 30 years here, it amazes
me how nasty students can be. It would be wonderful if Oracles, cold drink
cans and other trash were not left laying all over the place and if ladies/gentlemen
could wipe after themselves in the restrooms. Theres no excuse!!! Given
that USF cant afford staff to pick up and clean up after every student
(and shouldnt have to) I think Physical Plant personnel do a great job!
They have always been very attentive to my needs and I sincerely appreciate
it. |

EDU |
I teach three classes a week in EDU 115. For the past three to
four weeks we have had a number of problems. 1. The door to the stairwell
on the east side has been locked basically all day, or maybe days on end.
This is a problem for people bringing equipment from TSR (EDU 219) to
the classroom. 2. Since April 12 there have been the remains of what may
be a brunch (coffee pot, paper cups, utensils, lemonade dispenser, etc)
on a table in the classroom. The table has been moved from the center
of the room to the side. I do not know who is responsible to remove these
things but the lemonade is taking on a life of its own. 3. Today for the
first time the chairs were on top of the tables when we came in for class
at 8am. If the survey had been done a month earlier I would have had no
problems but the last month as been the worst in the years I have been
using this classroom. My office is always cared for well, so I know some
of this is not your problem, but if you could help I would appreciate
it. Thanks. XXXX |

There has been a dead fly stuck on the wall of the handicapped
toilet in the ladies restroom, since December 2003. (EDU 141)The entrance
door to the ladies room behind the Deans office does not have rubber padding
and slams loudly everytime someone enters or exits. (EDU 112) |

EDU |
Sometimes the education building is too cold-- I also teach in
other buildings that are poorly kept up-- HMS did not even have outside
lights on when class was let out-- this happened only once but that was
an uncomfortable and potentially dangerous situation. The older buildings
(Cooper, HMS) are a mess-- they smell bad and I wonder about toxic mold
and other harmful substances. All of this is not the fault of the physical
plant services but maybe this comment will help. |

EDU |
I believe that there are not enough recycling recepticles placed
around campus for students to get rid of their empty bottles or read newspapers.
If there is anything that you are looking to imporve, please make this
a priority. |
|
EME |
EME trailers are in bad shape. Doors at the bottom have corroded
and are falling apart. Requests to fix them have been very slow in the
making and only temporary fix has been made. Also A/C units put out soot
all over the lab. Carpets are all coming part in the seams. |
|
ENB |
My building is even on your list (ENC)!!! I choose ENB above because
it is the closest to me.Many physical plant workers are rude and inconsiderate
when using and driving golf carts. They sometimes do not watch nor care
for pedestrians. I have had to walk around carts parked on sidewalks because
workers were stopped, taking a break and talking. They dont always drive
on sidewalks why must they park on them to take a break?Im sure this is
just a few people, most workers are nice. But some are very rude to faculty,
staff and students. |
|
ENB |
First - this campus is beautiful! Just awesome - thanks so much
for all your hard work. Now, some suggestions (since you asked! LOL): 1)
Office trash bins need emptied more often.2) Is there some work that can
be done either before 8am or after 5:30? When I am walking to ENB in the
mornings through the Marshall Ctr., I am often trying to dodge the leaf
blowers and lawn mowers. I do my best, but I still have had bits of grass
and such blow into my eyes. Sometimes the personnel cut off their equipment
to let people pass, but not often.3) The water used for watering the lawns
and in the fountains smells like rotten eggs - LOL Sorry, but it does!
What is up with that? Makes me wonder what is in that water - I hope its
safe!4) Need recycle bins for cans and bottles put all over campus, including
in our building. USF needs to recycle much more than we are doing! Anyway,
thanks so much for asking and overall, great job! :O) |
|
ENB |
Overall Physical Plant does a good job. However, in ENB, the cleaning
crew do not do a good job. Computer labs, office space and specially the
stair case look filthy. |
|
ENB |
Paper supplies in Handicapped stalls are rarely stocked. Trash
is not removed from hallways. Generally the physical plant staff does
a credible job, but emergency work orders often do not receive priority.
Lighting is very bad in some offices with fluorescent fixtures often not
replaced. Since most USF staff spend more time at the office than at home
- the atmosphere and environment they work in has a strong impact on their
productivity. |
|
ENB |
the lavatories are a disgrace!!! besides being poorly outfitted,
the level of cleanliness is, well, not even clean - its completely disgusting!
There is no excuse for this other than a lack of cleaning personnel and/or
a retraining of said personnel.the urinal on the second floor mens room
has been broken for over a week and stinks to high heaven. I am hosting
a meeting here this week and am embarresed to bring my sponsor and colleagues
to campus...so I am NOT BRINGING THEM HERE! |
|
ENB |
By building ENC is not on the list! I selected ENB as that is the
next building over and I worked in that building previously and still
spend a considerable ammount there. |
|
ENB |
There is a lot of trash around the grounds and parking lots. It
makes the University appear dirty and unkempt. I see a lot of custodians
just sitting around during the day when I am sure there is plenty of work
to do. My trash can only gets emptied once a week and I always have to
call to have the recycle bins emptied. |
|
ENB |
The second floor mens bathroom in ENB is always out of towels and
soap. Also, one of the urinals is broken and covered by a trash bag and
it smells horrible. |
|
ENB |
The trash bins in the teaching labs and ENB108 are too small to
accomodate daily trash supply, so they are often overflowing. Also, the
large recycle bins next the the main elevator are an eyesore. They serve
as a most unwelcoming greeting to our visitors. And is there truly a need
for 3-4 bins in one place? The space they occupy would be better utilized
by placing some permanant seating for people waiting on the elevator.
|
|
ENB |
The bathroom facilities in ENB are not really ever clean. Especially
in the first and second floor restrooms. |
|
ENB |
Thank you! |
|
ENB |
Very nice. Thank you |
|
ENG |
We are having an issue with our trash piling up for several days
in our office (were in the Kopp building); it is picked up sporadically
and sometimes there are no trash bags. |
|
ENG |
We have had continued problems with the bathrooms and water fountains
on the third floor. We also seem to have a problem affording to have the
floors cleaned in the labs and offices. Whats the point of spending 12
million renovating the building if we cant afford upkeep and maintenance? |
|
ENG |
1. White Boards should be cleaned on a regular schedule2. Lights
in ENA 105 should be checked on a regular schedule. |
|
ENG |
The restrooms in Kopp building (ENG) are poorly stocked (out of
paper towels) and maintained (the hand was sink often runs dry). The trash
in office rooms is often not cleared, and the wrong types of bins have
been supplied. |
|
ENG |
Nice job |
|
ENG |
The staff at Physical Plant deserve a lot of credit for doing an
outstanding job. They are not often recognized because things go so smoothly
and their work is transparent to the average user of facilities on campus.
Keep up the great work and Thank you. |
|
ENG |
The ENR Building needs to have its grounds cleaned up. The engineering
staff went over and cleaned up but it doesnt stay that way. The Kopp Building
has bathrooms without running water in the sinks, and the ENC Buildings
offices are rarely vacuumed. |

ENX |
EMA, EMB, EMC & ENX trailers near CUTRThe positive:Grounds
around CUTR are well kept.Womens bathroom in ENX outside trailer is usually
cleaned well each night.Usually good response when a call is made for
a problem.Other general maintenance is good.People taking work management
calls have been pleasant. The negative:Grounds around the trailers have
had trash under the stairs and between trailers that havent been picked
up for months. Sometimes leaves are blown to cover the trash under the
stairs, but when the leaves blow away again, the trash remains visible
and is an eye sore.Need bigger recycle bin for cans. Current small box
overflows before it is emptied.Paper towels in ENX outside bathrooms are
sometimes neglected.Mens room bathroom in outside ENX constantly has problems
& is dirty (this may be more a problem of the users than Physical
Plant, but still is a problem)Is there a way to fix the pile of dirt and
sand that drains into the parking lot at the end of the sidewalk (also
near the long newly created drive that goes up to the electric cars)?
That dirt gets on peoples feet and then gets tracked into the trailers
creating more of a mess, especially during rainy days.Carpets inside ENX
trailers dont always appear to be vacuumed each night.Trailers are generally
neglected due to apparent attitude that we are not as important as the
buildings or are too remote or whatever. Many small departments and professors
now have offices over here. It would be nice to have more attention to
cleaning & grounds keeping. Especially when the departments have visitors
from off-campus coming for meetings, etc.We appreciate the prompt response
to problems that have been called in. And also, appreciate the courteous
staff. Just would like a little more attention to the above situations. |

FAH |
While I understand the need to keep the University landscape looking
good, I am very disturbed by the amount of noise produced by this function.
When my fellow staff members and I are trying to have a pleasant lunch
at one of the tables near FAH, it is frequently ruined by one or two groundskeepers
and their extremely loud leaf blowers or other equipment. I see that they
wear protective ear coverings when they use this equipment. Why is it
that the rest of us are expected to live with it? Are there no alternatives?
Is there no equipment that could be used instead that produce less noise?Thank
you for the opportunity to comment. |

Restrooms should be cleaned daily, not just restocked. This included
cleaning the basins, toilets, floors and tiles. These are dirty on a daily
basis and it is not clear if and when they are being cleaned. Offices
should be swept/vaccuumed and dusted weekly. These dont appear to ever
be done, not even once a year. Classrooms should have floors swept/vacuumed/washed
daily. I dont see evidence that they are done more than once a year. |
|
FAH |
The practice rooms and offices are seldom cleaned. |
|
FAH |
work orders take quite a while before actions are taken.cleaning
is not done on a regular basis. I have to "remind" Physical

FAH |
These buildings need a very good cleaning at least once a month.
The staircase banisters are so dirty, you cant put your hands on them
or would want to. The bathrooms: all toliets need cleaning in and out;
the stall walls and doors need to be wiped down once a month; paper towels
need to be checked everyday - I have noticed no paper towels in the ladies
rooms on several occasions during this year; they all need deodorizers.
Classrooms are dirty, practice rooms are dirty, carpets should be vacuumed
without it being asked for. The recycle large green bins need to be put
at the curb at night so they are available to be filled during the day.
They too are filthy and are horrible to touch.thank you for listening,

I believe that the grounds of this institution are some of the
best kept anywhere. I have visited several institutions both instate and
out and brag about our people and the pride they take in their work.We
are having regular problems with having appropriate supplies in the restrooms
and have to call more often that I believe should be necessary but considering
the limited budget, Physical Plant is doing a very good job. |

FAO |
The large recyle bins in the hallway are unsightly. Cant they be
kept on the bottom level where there is less traffic? The air quality in
FAO is questionable. Im always congested in this building. People often
ask me if I have a cold. The staff that clean the 100 level womens bathroom
is very good. It always looks fresh and clean in the morning. Thanks. The
PP personnel Ive come in contact with are friendly and skillful and theyre
quick to respond to requests. |

Carpets are NEVER vacuumed. Waste baskets are rarely put back in
the rooms in the same place. Nothing is ever dusted. Windows are never
cleaned. Bushes outside are only trimmed every other month or so. Grass
dies from lack of attention. Weeds grow rampant. The building inside and
out looks terrible. |

Why not ask about office cleaning ? Heres my addition:Offices are

HiI think you all do a great job. Our womens bathroom on the 2nd
floor does smell a bit. I think it must be the drain? Sometimes tables
in the classrooms/computer lab have some stickiness on them. Otherwise,
I would like to be informed as to how the process works as far as getting
someone out to my office to clean and does it cost my department anything.
I just like to be informed. I guess I will ask our administrative staff
about that. Thanks so much for all you do.pen* (XXXX) |

I know that whenever I call in a problem, it is taken care of very
quickly. I appreciate that very much. The ground floor entrance to our
building has been having more attention paid to it and is looking good. But
we still need that ashtray outside our front door. It was promised for
last week or the week before. There are a lot of cigarette butts lining
the sidewalk. We also have active ant mounds by the front sidewalk. I cant
tell if anything has been done about them or not. Thanks for all the good

HMS |
Sometimes the building steps are not so clean. |
|
HMS |
With the addition of the Burger King near our building there has
been an increase in garbage nearby. The outside appearance of our building
could use a facelift with some flowering plants and nicer plant beds (similar
to the ADM building area). |
|
HMS |
The grounds are great. Most buildings are great. HMS though, is
a wreck. The elevator has been malfunctioning for years and years (It
was remodeled but it still has consistent operating problems and is perhaps
the slowest elevator I have ever been on.) It takes eons for discarded
furniture and the like to be removed from the Physical Plant, hence the
hallways always have random junk scattered in them. Check out the bathrooms
on the 2nd through 4th floors. They are definitely due for a remodeling
from the decrepid ceiling down to the floors. Its actually embarassing
for the people who work here to bring people in for meetings. Note: The
woman who cleans the bathrooms does a good job despite their old, really
gross condition. |

Comments true for Chemistry building and Cooper as well |

Work requests are not always performed as requested. For example,
I order teal carpet for my office and got dark blue withou any notice
or explanation. Also, I requested the windows to be washed, which they
were, but the tracks of the windows were not cleaned although they had
dust and debry in them. |

The grounds workers are usually very courtesy, always making sure
not to blow dirt on our clothes. However, the personnel that travel around
the campus on the club cars are often very inconsiderate. On many occasions
over the past almost 3 years that Ive been on the main campus, Ive experienced
club cars zooming passed me. And they usually do not yield the right of
way to pedestrians. I usually have to step off the side walk, because
they dont even slow down. Each time this has occurred, the club car has
read, "Physical Plant".I know Im not the only person whos annoyed
with your speed-demon drivers. Ive heard others in my department make
similar comments. |

I find that the bathrooms, by the end of the day are dirty and
we lack papertowels and toilet paper in some of the toilet areas. I have
also found, that if one works weekends, trying to obtain a person from

overflowing or running water that cant be stopped in the mens rooms. I
have reported problems of this sort in the am on a Sat. to the wkend #,
leaving a message but wonder if anyone gets it before Mon.? |

I think the Physical Plant staff are super heroes! How such a small
staff can handle the problems on a campus this large is a minor miracle.
After working on staff at the University of Florida and Florida Atlantic

hourly on how so much is accomplished by only a few. XXXX |

LRC |
We have had to repeatedly summon a physical plant employee to deal
with the COLD temperature in this building (especially on the 2nd floor).
We are often treated as if we are too sensitive to what the employee thinks
is an OK temperature. Is there a reason why we cannot regulate the temperature
here (supposedly it is controlled off campus)? We have also had to repeatedly
ask for someone to be sent out to deal with a barely flushing toilet.

LRC |
Groundsmen and cleaning staff are always polite and friendly! They

Why are floors not taken care of, at least swept of dirt and dust?Bugs

floors are not swept or washed. Even the newly renovated bathrooms show
no evidence of a broom or mop cleaning the floor. |

I am responding for the USF Medical Clinic. We have an ongoing
problem with the temperature in various parts of the clinic being either
too cold or too hot, but I believe its related to the zoning/system.Being
a clinical setting, our needs for housekeeping are greater than in an
office setting. Overall, they do a good job but frequently are short staffed
due to illness, turnover, etc. which does create issues in the clinic. |

I think overall the Physical Plant maintenance personnel do a fantastic
job. They are always courteous and quick to respond to a request.Perhaps
the students and staff could start an adopt a tree program, where we could
plant flowers around a specific tree or group of trees and maintain the
flowers seasonally. The ladies restrooms by the Cafe at the College of
Medicine appear to have hot running water in the commodes. The sink faucets
do not work properly (ie: cold water is low volume and hot is high volume). Many
thanks for requesting my opinion.XXXXComparative Medicine |

Physical Plant personnel in this building are very professional,
very friendly and helpful and do an outstanding job. They are a real asset
to this university and improve the quality of life on this campus. |

MDC lab floors are VERY DIRTY ALL THE TIME. They only mop when
I send in a request. They need to routinely mop once a week like they
used to. They night crew has been very slack for the past few years and
I have called the manager several times and nothing has changed. They
day cleaning people keep the area very nice, but of course they cant mop
our lab when we are here.WE have constant ant problems and have to call
for spraying all once a month. The bathrooms are very clean, but they never
have any sanitary napkins in the machines and I have to hunt from floor
to floor in a emergency.Thank you for inquiring and giving us the chance
for feed back. |

MDC |
There was a time in the history of the health sciences center that
office maintenance was proactively handled...lighting, air temperature/quality,
cleanliness, wear & tear...all these things were properly repaired/replaced/cleaned
prior to problems arising. Now, issues are addressed only if requested
by office staff and then only at a minimum level of quality. Its sad.
The campus grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintianed. The same
level of pride and attention to detail should be applied to building maintenance.
Also, the quality of the restroom products has seriously deteriorated.
It takes twice the amount of paper towels to dry ones hands as it used
to and the toilet paper feels like sandpaper. |
|
MDC |
In terms of bathrooms, many are very very clean. The exception
is the 4th floor in the basic science building - this issue is not really
the people who clean - the issue is more with the people who use it! |
|
MDC |
Some special requests take forever to be resolved. I realize the
FAST system is not exactly fast, but months of waiting is not acceptable.
It would also be great if bathroom doors could be closed prior to the
start of the next business day. |
|
MDC |
Support staff in this area have been excellent. Floors have been
waxed regularly in the labs, bathrooms always clean, trash emptied every
night. The breezeways in the building are even cleaned regularly. An outstanding
job by all. |
|
MDC |
1. Floors in labs are NOT clean. Theres a real need for sweeping
and mopping. 2. Carpets in offices should be vacuumed.3. Ants have been
a problem. Recurrent calls have been placed for treatment.4. WATER FOUNTAINS---
PLEASE pay special attention to this one! A greenish build-up around the
water dispenser can be observed in the water fountains. This is a potential
health hazard.5. Physical plant personnel assigned to our building is
always willing to provide assistance. |
|
MDC |
I have never experienced anything that could be considered "timely"
in relation to Physical Plant. Maintenence is especially worthless. I
watched as it took 5 Physical Plant employees 3 days to replace a small,
exterior sign. The bathroom closest to my office has now been closed for
2 days because of clogeed urinal drains. The list goes on and on.Housekeeping
and grounds both do, in general, a good job. Housekeeping in particular
seems to go beyond what is required on a fairly regular basis. |
|
MDC |
Restrooms are clean, but could be cleaner. Sometimes out of soap
more than 1 day.Previous problem with one cleaning staff member using
my office & phone for personal use; direct confrontation did not stop
problem; complaint had to escalate for it to stop - isolated incident,
but illustrated incredibly unprofessional behavior.Electrician Curt is
especially good at his job; very thorough & pro-active -- goes the
extra mile. The air conditioning situation in this building is terrible
-- hot & cold spots -- long time problem with no solution (apparently).
Bring in an outside consultant for solution?Asbestos is still visible
in the Library atrium area. Shouldnt this be removed? |
|
MDC |
Although, I have complained about the air being too cold, and the
staff has attempted to fix it, it is quite impossible if the staff does
not have access to proper equipment to replace items because it is old
or does not exist. The toilet paper in the restrooms are very hard and
really shouldnt be used for such purposes. |
|
MDC |
Does Housekeeping fall under the aegis of Physical Plant? The stairwells
in MDC are cleaned way too infrequently. The mens bathroom (3048) is not
kept in clean condition. Physical plant came through the offices and labs
about 16 years ago and removed 1/2 the ballasts from the fluorescent lights.
This was to save electricity (!). How much did it cost to disconnect the
ballasts?? As a result, most labs in the old section of MDC do not have
adequate lighting. |
|
MDC |
Optometrists and lighting specialists have stated that florescent
lighting is the worst lighting that can beused anywhere. Incandescent

The weeding of flower beds and trimming of trees seem to not be
done as often around our building as conpared to others on campus. Otherwise,
I feel that you guys do a prety good job keeping the campus looking pretty
good. Keep up the good work! |

I do not agree that a work order should be submitted in order for
the bathrooms and buildings to be cleaned. It has been better recently,
but in the past the trash was taken out every other day and that was it.

I dont understand why leaves are blown from the sidewalks. It takes
only about a half a day for them all to end up back on the sidewalks.
It seems a waste of labor hours to have people blowing leaves around and
not picking any up. If they just would pick up the leaves instead, they
wouldnt have to clean the same areas as often. The machines also contribute
to polluting our environment, both through particulate exhaust and noise.MHC
building is often too cold. |
|
MHC |
Little things like getting new keys, having an office vacuumed,
etc are frustrating because they take so long and, re: keys, have taken
several trips to finally get it right. |
|
MHC |
In terms of the "good appearance" of the campus buildings,
I disagreed not because of anything that physical plant staff do wrong,
but because they were just built as somewhat unattractive buildings. |

MHC |
The Housekeeper who works in my area is a very pleasant, nice person. |

As far as the de la Parte Institute Research Library is concerned,
physical plant personnel are wonderful. They have been able to accommodate
all our "out of the ordinary" requests in a timely fashion,
hitting deadlines and finishing projects right each time. They are always
courteous and helpful in resolving a maintenance or building problem.
If they have a better solution, they tell us about it and, in general,
try to make our lives easier, safer, and more comfortable. And for the
survey, you might want to change "Classrooms are generally clean"
to "Classrooms and offices are generally clean", since we do
not have a lot of classrooms in the library but our offices are in good
shape, thanks to physical plant. We think they are wonderful. |
|
MHC |
We continue to have a problem with housekeeping services. A few
moths ago, I contacted both housekeeping managers at FMHI and informed
them that we have insufficient cleaning in our area. They stated that
the evening crew picks up the overflow. I told them we have never had
an evening crew in our area. Said they would check out and get back with
me--still waiting to hear from them. Sometimes we only have trash picked
up once a week/twice at the most. (Im only referring to the housekeeping
service center managers when referring to unresponsive to our departments
inquiry.) Light bulbs, minor repairs, etc. are performed in a timely,
professional manner. Thanks. XXXX |

MHC |
Ive worked around campus for 20 years, and the personnel who clean
FMHI are some of the best ever! Thanks for all your hard work and friendliness.

The lighting in the rooms used for classes is less than adequate.
If it is bright, the light is glaring. Or in some it is just not bright
enough to see well since many of the rooms have low lighting from the
days when they were used as social rooms or mental health areas. Also,
the switching is difficult. We use a lot of AV in the fronts of the rooms
and can not turn off the front lights. It is either the left or the right
side or some in the front and some in the back. It makes it difficult
for our students to see the AV program and take notes - it either has
to be too bright or too dark. Also, the flourescent tubes are all different
tones which makes some offices have better lighting than others. Consistency
in lighting would help.Thank you. |

MHC |
More attention needs to be given to the landscaping and entryways
of buildings throughout campus. This is where visitors form their first
impressions, and shabby walkways and untended plantings are not acceptable
for a world-class university. |
|
MHC |
Maintenance folks carry the old "good ol-boys" attitude.
Also, I have seen 3-4 maintenance people standing around to fix an exit
sign. |

MHH |
Our building attendant is named XXXX..He is highly professional
and our bathrooms, have NEVER looked better.........He cleans circles
around the cleaning "women" we have had in the past.....He is
also courteous and efficient. |
|
MHH |
We must frequently ask that Physical Plant staff empty recycling
bins, offices are not well cleaned, windows are not cleaned unless requested
and paper towel and soap dispensers are often empty or not set up correctly
so paper towels are not on rollers and cannot be accessed. Carpeted floors
are not cleaned well at all. An exterior door on the front of MHH has
had a faulty crash bar latch which does not close securely for more than
three years, and Physical Plant has not made a long-term repair. They
clean and spray the lock which improves the function for a few weeks,
then the problem returns. This is a major security issue! We recently had
a situation in front of the building in which a Physical Plant person
allegedly threatened another person with a knife and USF Police were called.
|

MHH |
I do not specifically submit work requests, but response to comments
seems very timely. Also, Id like the ability to comment on different buildings,
since my classes are held throughout campus. |
|
MHH |
AC/Heat for the MHH building continues to be an ongoing problem
- the office manager needs more control of the thermostats as the temperature
changes hour by hour. |

I work in a lab and do not have any comments on the classrooms.
I have not had an emergency request. |

Generally, I think our building is kept up as well as an old building
can be. I do wish carpeted areas (in hallways and offices) were vacuumed
more.We have a faulty soap dispenser in the upstairs Ladies room that
makes quite a mess in the sink area. |
|
MSL |
Temperature controls w/in the COT modular trailers is severely
inadequate. Differences of several degrees from trailer to trailer or
even from side to side of the same trailer are common. Physical plant
is rediculously incapable of proper notice for scheduled maintenance of
systems such as AC. Notice of more than one day is necessary to properly
shut down laboratories, experiments, and projects. For environmentally
sensitive work, notice of at least a week is required. This obviously
doesnt pertain to unscheduled outages beyond the control of staff. |
|
MSL |
The termination of our long-time friend, XXXX, was shocking and
disappointing. My floor has not had consistent care since, though XXXX
and XXXX are both very good (no, XXXX, who was with us for a while, was
outstanding!) The relatively recent hire of the custodial "supervisor"
was definitely not an improvement! On his apparent power trip, he destroyed
morale and, when he has had to fill in (after he fired XXXX), it is obvious
that he is not as conscientious about cleaning as the individuals that
he supervises. |

MSL |
Bathrooms are old and look dirty, but probably are very clean.

Response is only for MSL building.Im including all areas alound
the building for campus grounds, some areas may not be Phys Plant responsibilities.
I am unfamiliar with the classrooms. |
|
MSL |
Temperature control in office and lab areas of MSL is horrendus.
Areas are either freezing or too hot to work comfortably. Workers have
to use space heaters under their desks in some areas to remain reasonable
comfortable. Either balancing the A/C system is not yet completed or needs
to be redone.Have also requested in the past that chemical treatment of
the lawn around MSL be halted. Every year we end up killing baby birds
because the parents feed their young the chemical laced insects that survive
this treatment. There is also direct run-off into the bay of pesticides
and nutrients. This is not a good precedent for a University to be setting. Thanks! |

Our hallways in the building could be swept clean of dust bunnies.
Its not professional to show someone the building and see dust and dirt
slipping across the baseboards. Floors could be swept more like nightly
and window sills are always dirty. |

Not all classrooms have waste receptacles, which sometimes causes
paper and other trash to be left on tables/desks. Offices and classrooms

The inside of the building is fility. We keep complaining, but
just get excuses that you are understaffed. The air quality gets worse
and worse as the building ages, making it difficult for those with asthma/allergies.
Yesterday the main staircase had piles of dust and hair. XXXX requested
it be cleaned, and I assume it will eventually, but we have to specifically
request that rooms be cleaned. They arent routinely. |

Cleaning is a definite issue. We have a new building and carpets

The stairwells could be cleaner looking - cobwebs are noticeable
and the stairs could be swept on a regular basis. On the first floor in

an ant problem in the clinic - thanks for taking care of that. Some of
the clinic rooms still tend to be too cool. I supervise pediatric audiology
clinic and the clinic rooms are just a bit too cool for the patients to
sit in for too long. My office is a bit cool alos. |

The survey is confusing. The descriptors do not line uf with the
correct collumns. The first two questions deal with the university as
a whole so I continued to respond based on the university as a whole and
then the last question asked for which building I was commenting. Very
confusing. I do not think the data you get from this will be very valid
given the above. I responded to all question as the overall university. |

Sometimes we dont have any one show up to clean, even tho we are

USF Physical Plant staff who I have interacted with have all been
excellent - very professional, helpful, and pleasant to work around. They
keep this place running smoothly and the grounds looking beautiful! Great
job!On the other hand, contract night cleaning crew in SCA have been an
ongoing problem. Theft of personal belongings and money from offices,
disturbance of items on desktops and in drawers, unauthorized use of telephones,
computers, and offices (once came to work in the morning to find night
crew persons meal trash and utensils on faculty members desk!) had become
an unacceptable problem. We have since required that they not enter faculty

SOC |
Our faculty offices are never cleaned in the SOC building!there
is inadequate lighting in the classrooms. |
|
SOC |
Ive noticed this semester that trash will lay around the back (parking
lot) entrace to SOC for a week or more. Im sympathetic because I come
in on Monday and am distressed at all the trash thats somehow appeared
over the week-end. However, it will be there for a long time.I dont know
what to tell you about the physical condition of SOC. Its generally clean,
but its difficult to improve the aesthetics of an old, fundamentally worn
out building. And I dread the summer coming with our inadequate air conditioning
system.Despite all my griping, I do appreciate Physical Plant efforts
to keep us up and running. |
|
SOC |
The SOC building is disgusting. The roof has been leaking for the
past 7 years; the bathrooms are gross and understocked; there is no hot
water; the classrooms are too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.
The other buildings are certainly better, but in the Fall Semester the
thermostat in CIS 1045 never worked. In short, physical plant is doing
a poor job. |
|
SOC |
The physical plant employees are very professional. Thanks for
finally getting the leak fixed in SOC over the Public Administration offices.
It depends on the time of day as to whether the classrooms are neat. There
needs to be larger trash cans in the classrooms, often by the end of the
day (for evening classes)they are overflowing. |
|
SOC |
Bathrooms in SOC are appalling. Never any paper by 2 pm. Self-flushing
means they never flush when most appropriate (who made that dopey decision
to install such equipment?). Also toilets flush and shower the seat with
filthy liquid -- such great engineering! No cleanup in the building on
weekends means pigpen hallways and classrooms Mon AM. Furniture in classrooms
has to be moved around by faculty just to allow people to get in the door
and get seated easily. Some moron decided to replace perfectly fine blackboards
with whiteboards; now there is never anything to write on them with. Nobody
steals chalk -- why did nobody ask the users of the classrooms how they
should be changed or improved? Worst of all, taking away the ability of
the people working in the room to control even the temperature in the
room makes our already low morale all the worse. Please bring back thermostats!
Please put in real toilet paper, not that useless stuff! And lock the
buildings on weekends and nights, for heavens sake. Stuff is stolen out
of the classrooms constantly -- they have the new locks but are always
unlocked -- even late at night and 5 am Sundays! Besides theft, leaving
the building wide open brings tremendous safety issues for those who come
in to work on weekends. Must we wait till another person gets murdered
on campus to get the doors locked? Thanks for asking. I have been here
20 years and seen all this get worse every year. I hope you can do something
to help. |

Filthy bathrooms that go days at a time without paper towel. Toilet
paper strewn on the floors. Stairwells in the SOC are disgusting and never
cleaned. |
|
SOC |
The paper towel dispensers in the second floor ladies remained
broken for several weeks. The automatic spigot does not work well, perhaps
because the sensor is dirty. The stairways are not clean. The doors into
the building do not always work. Ashtrays and grounds around the doors
are littered. |

About a month ago, the lights went out in the SOC building during
a work week in the morning. I called Physical Plant to report it and see
how long it would take for power to be running again. The lady who answered

the stressful situation in a professional manner regardless of the situation.

I have to wade through dirt to get to this doorway as well. |

SVC |
Campus grounds have trash and paper. Waste cans typically are overflowing. |
|
SVC |
The bathrooms that are on the second floor of the SVC (outside

of papertowels and filthy. Garbage cans in individual offices need to
be emptied nightly if bug infestation is to be avoided. Very friendly
employees, only good things to say about them. |

I dont know who is responsible for maintaining the public bulletin
boards, but they should not allow the "wallpapering" of the
board with the same poster in 100 places on the same board. I hang one
little poster and go by an hour later and it is covered by some advertisement
from a nightclub or organization that has posted 50 copies of it on the
same bulletin board. That should not be allowed. |

Regards to the Service Center Personnel (After Hours Answering
Service) - Unfortunately, I had to make a call to physical plant on a

Paper products in the ladies restroom near the stairwell on the
second floor run out but it is kept clean. Water still accumulates around

stocked. All of the rest of them in SVC are well maintained and are well-stocked.

It used to be that the doors to the SVC building at the south end
of the breezeway were always open by 7am daily. In the last 6 weeks, on
days when Ive gotten here between 7-7:20am, at least 3 times a week on
average the doors were not unlocked. Since I dont have a key to the building,
its very inconvenient to have to wait for someone who does to arrive,
or to have to walk all the way around the building to the door on the
northeast corner, which sometimes is unlocked and sometimes not. There
are other employees who have encountered the same thing and having talked
with them I can say they feel the same way as I do. Just curious, is there
a specific time these doors are supposed to be unlocked, or have we all
just been spoiled by the earlier unlocking of the doors in the past? |

SVC |
One thing that needs a great deal of improvement is the use of
those awful golf carts - the people who drive those from all areas including
physical plant, go far too fast and have no problem running people off
the sidewalks and block walk-ways due to thier horrible parking jobs.
This is not a pedestrian-friendly campus at all. Between the bikes, skateboards,
lack of side-walks and out-of-control golf carts its a scary place to
walk. Then there are the grounds people who typically are just sitting
in their carts staring at people as they walk by, not too polite.Overall
the campus is well maintained, however there are areas that need quite
a bit of attention - the current creepy basement entrance to SVC from
lot 7 is a joke. There is a large, inclined sand patch which is of course,
dirty, and when it rains it becomes a mudslide. Then, the entrance to
the building is littered with cigarette butts and garbage, it is disgusting.
And there is a tall narrow fence between SVC and the radio station building
which makes it appear like a prison. It certainly doesnt set the tone
for a nice work day.Our offices in SVC are so cold it is just ridiculous.
What a waste of money on way too much AC. Just 2 degrees warmer will help
- we have a thermometer in our office and many times it has been as low
as 67 degrees. We all walk around in huge sweaters all year long. There
are a lot of good things aobu this campus, the grounds usually look very
nice, especially the landscaping improvements. And overall, things are
kept clean which is difficult with so many litterbugs walking around the
campus. |

SVC |
Dont seem to be able to have a comfortable temperature, too cold

1. There should be advance warning to Offices when Physical Plant
employees are coming to make repairs that the Office did not request.
Recently when wiring was being installed for either the swipe or the alarm
system, I arrived in the morning to learned that they needed to be in
my office. Had I known I could have made other arrangements. 2. I want
to reiterate that when outside contractors are doing work, they should
make arrange to clean up and not have USF Personnel deterred from thier
regular cleanup work that should be handled by the contractor. |
|
SVC |
I feel Physical Plant does a good job in consideration of available
resources here at USF. Yes, sometimes the building is too hot, or too
cold, and yes, I would love to have someone clean my carpet every ten
years, and yes, to see someone clean up five years of cobwebs and dirt
on the inside wall of HR in the breezeway :-), but overall... its great
to have the fine support from Physical Plant. |

SVC |
THE OFFICES ARE NEVER CLEANED AND FLOORS ARE NEVER VACUUMED. TRASH
IS EMPTIED TWICE A WEEK. |
|
SVC |
Room temperature is a problem at times, but even getting people
to agree on what is a comfortable temperature is difficult, so your job
is not easy there. Some high traffic restrooms such as the one on the first
floor of SVC (main or old part of the building), while regularly maintained,
need attention more frequently than it gets. This one has more than its
share of use. Of course the users have to take the blame for misuse, but
unfortunately those who leave it clean suffer when others do not. |
|
SVC |
The mens restroom in the basement is never as clean as the restrooms
upstairs. To use the restroom I usually go upstairs which is inconvenient. For
the last several days the urinal has been overflowing adding to the general
stinky order and uncleaness. The second toilet cubicle is so small its
practically useless. |
|
SVC |
The first floor womens bathroom in the main SVC building is disgusting.
The floors and walls are filthy - it doesnt appear that they have ever
been scrubbed. Toilet paper and towels are frequently needed, and the
smell is very unpleasant. The air freshener dispenser is useless because
it is not maintained. The middle stall floor is frequently wet, and now
the inner entrance door does not close properly. Using bathrooms in other
campus buildings has only confirmed that this bathroom is not cleaned
and maintained properly. This is a high traffic location and it should
be cleaned throughout the day just as the Marshall Center bathrooms are.
The university should be embarrassed by this facility. |
|
SVC |
We can never seem to consistently control the office temperatures.
Its usually either too hot or too cold. A map of the A/C controls (thermostat
controls)should be provided to each section/department that outlines which
thermostat controls which area of the building/room. SVC 2nd floor breeze
way restrooms are hard to manage, the counter around the wash basins holds
water creating quite a mess. |
|
SVC |
Our grounds are not as pretty as they used to be. I see a lot of
weeds around the SVC and ADM building. The grass isnt as green. As for
the buildings, theyve gotten a lot better, but for a while there was much
to be desired. |
|
SVC |
The grounds seem to be strewn with debris of late. I recall when
I came here some years ago, the grounds, though not as lushly landscaped
as now, were nevertheless much cleaner. Im a little surprised that the
paths taken by the Admissions Office tour groups arent cleaned better.
It gives a poor impression to folks that we are trying to sell our campus
to.The landscaping is generally well-groomed. Im referring to papers and
trash scattered around the Marshall Center, the Admin Building, and the
mall between. |
|
SVC |
Often, the rest rooms are not cleaned throughout the day. In some
buildings, that may work fine. In high traffic areas, that can become
a problem. Sometimes the walkways outside the building are littered with
papers - not necessarily a reflection of our staff, but more because of
the bulletin board that students and vendors can post notices. It often
gets overrun and the notices blow off or are pulled down and litter the
walkways. Overall, were very pleased with the Physical Plant staff and
services! |
|
SVC |
Bathrooms need hot water and rather have them maintained like the
Marshall Center bathrooms. |
|
SVC |
My office is in SVC, but I teach or take classes in Cooper and
Education. Education classrooms are usually clean, but the ones in Cooper
often are not--full trash cans, dirty boards, papers and cans sometimes
left on desks. |

SVC |
Poor ratings are mostly due to bathroom maintenance. Recent plumbing
problems have taken "Months" to repair. Other big source of
dissatisfaction is common extremely strong rotting carcass smell (most
likely cats burying dead birds or squirrels) at entrance of ground floor
SVC into breezeway (north), on the left corner next to the bike racks.
The stench fills up the entire breezeway & has been going on for about
a year now. |

SVC |
Hot water would be nice to wash your hands with in the first floor

TAR |
What I notice in ALL of the buildings is a buildup behind the doors
and in the corners of a mixture of dirt, water and whatever cleaning product
was used. This a only natural when people use mops since mops just shove
the dirt around. This muck needs cleaning out with white vinegar, wire
brushes, and a wet vac to suck it away. |
|
TAR |
There is a problem heaing/cooling offices---apparently unfixable
(its been a problem for the seven years Ive been here).Anyway to encourage
folks in the "smoking area" (near water machine) to use receptacles
for butts instead of ground? We need some LARGE receptacles for butts
all around that area.THANKS |

TAR |
It is a tough job to maintain all of our buildings, especially
during years with budget reductions, but I think Physical Plant has done
a fine job in keeping the buildings and classrooms clean and responding
to repair requests or emergencies in a timely manner. Planning for improvements
and vendor subcontracts for major jobs such as floor, roof, paint, carpet,
electrical or plumbing is first-rate. We appreciate the way we are often
involved in the process, such as the elevator in our building and dividing
A/C into zones to make our classroom temperature controllable. All in
all, the staff makes it work seamlessly and sometimes magically. Ive found
Physical Plant staff to be pleasant and responsive. XXXX, who manages
our building, always says hello and seems to have a replacement light
fixture, tools or ladder in his hands every time I see him. He deserves
a raise. Thank you. |

There is a major problem with mold and mildew in the air vents.
It is uncomfortable to be in the building for long periods of time, especially
for those with allergies. I actually know people who are sick while in
the building, and well while out of it. |

UPB |
The garage does not get work done in a timely manner. A car can
sit there for weeks on a repair and you have to stay on them almost on
a daily basis to make sure it gets done. Answers for why a car is not
working is at times suspect. When I go to get gas, it appears that people
are just standing around not doing anything. This looks bad for them giving
the appearance that work is not done quickly. |

There should be more office space for adjuncts. Parking is extremely
expensive. |

The building I work in (WRB) is general in very good shape. Occassionally
trash has not been picked up in some rooms. Also, papertowels are not
always replenished in a timely fashion.PLEASE NOTE: I have attended a
few classes in the last year where the rooms were not always very clean.
The classes were located in the CIS, FAH (the Music performance hall),
and the CSD building. The classrooms had a lot of trash on the floor,
in chairs and overflowing trash cans. |

I am commenting on the first floor only. We are often without paper
towels in our lounge. We have real trouble getting staff to pick up the
trash in our on-air Control Room. Dusting just doesnt happen. Vacuuming
rarely. |
