Utilities Management is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the University's utility systems. These systems include domestic water, waste-water pumping, steam, hot and chilled water for air conditioning and heating, high voltage electrical distribution systems, and street/area lighting.
Utilities Management is also responsible for the maintenance and reliability of the 13,200 volt underground electrical distribution systems. The Electric Shop maintains these systems along with the distribution panels in the buildings and building emergency generators. The Electric Shop also maintains the above ground switches and transformers, traffic signal systems, street /area lighting and all portable generators.
Utilities Management distributes more than 230 million gallons of potable water to campus yearly with a 1.2 million gallon storage tower for fire protection and maintains all water systems outside of buildings. Utilities Management also collects and pumps waste water to the City of Tampa sewer system, using liftstations that are erected throughout campus to counter the forces of gravity in moving effluent to the City of Tampa sewage system.

Utilities Management produces 15,000 gallons per minute of 45 degrees F chilled water and 3,400 gallons per minute of hot water which is distributed through underground piping loops (14", 18", and 24") servicing most of the campus. Chilled water (used for air conditioning) and hot water (used for heating) is produced at the Central Plant. The Central Plant is a steam and electrically operated facility producing more than 10,000 A/C tons of chilled water and steam. The Central Plant operates continuously. Utilities Management maintains the main loops and operates the Plant.

The Northwest Satellite Plant was constructed in 2001 and brought on-line in 2002. This system services most of the West and Medical side of campus. This system has capability of producing 5,000 gallons per minute of 45 degrees chilled water. This is also distributed throughout an underground piping loop. The Medical Center area is under a rebuilding stage and upon completion all medical center plants will be combined and the Northwest Satellite plant will produce everything needed for the medical center area.
