II. ENERGY MANAGEMENT
· Natural Gas Purchase Savings The direct purchase of natural gas saved a total of $1,458,425 in FY 08-09 when compared with Peoples Gas price and avoided cost compared to FY 07-08. In FY 09-10 USF saved $52,093 in July ‘09, and $37,729 in August for a total of $89,822.05 in August ‘09. Total savings for the natural gas purchasing program stands at $9,274,004. Effective May 1, 2009, the University started purchasing natural gas on a fixed price basis. This is to ensure that USF achieves budgetary cost reduction for Purchased Utilities in comparison to FY07-08 in the purchase of natural gas. Fifty (50%) percent of the gas is being purchased on a 12 month price lock and 40% of the gas is being purchased on a 24 month price lock.
· Heat Pipes GLE consulting engineering firm has been issued PO to evaluate, design, and coordinate heat pipe installations in SCA, NES, and MDC buildings approved for installation. A total of 12 air handling units are in the project. Designs for a total of 6 units (2 each in SCA, NES, and MDC Ph 3) were completed and bid. These units were retrofitted prior to the start of Fall 2009 semester. The remaining 6 units (2 in SCA and 4 in MDC) will be retrofitted in December 2009. The bids for the remaining units have been received and are in the process of being awarded.

· LED Traffic Lights A total of 11 intersections are to be retrofitted with LED traffic lights. A total of 322 incandescent lamps to be replaced with LED lamps. The projected savings are 121,000 kWh/yr or $10,285/yr for a simple payback of 2.6 years. The project installation is underway and scheduled for completion in October 2009.
· Lighting Efficiency Improvement In-house maintenance staff has completed replacement of 32 watt fluorescent lamps with 28 watt lamps in the LIB. The remaining campus buildings have been divided into 11 lots, each with approximately 350,000 sq. ft. Each lot will be individually bid for installation work.
